Default Engine temp help

Hi, I have a tornado xp buggy only about a month old and im having trouble with the engine running the right temp. It runs about 275-300 degrees. So I finally came to the point where I had the high speed needle as rich as it can go and it still runs 275-300 degrees. wth. I don't understand. Can anyone please help me. I dont want to ruin the engine. Thank you.

check your carb for looseness, if it-s loose air leaks might be your problem, also check your fuel lines small pinches or holes will let air in causing the engine run hotter, cracks in your fuel tank also make air leak in the fuel.

I was going through this exact same thing and I think I just found it! After sealing the carb, backplate, around the pullstart and replacing the fuel lines I got to looking more in to the fuel system and guess what?! The fuel tank was leaking around the lid even though I thought it was sealing perfectly. I'll order a new one next week but for now I'm going to try using some of that RTV stuff around the lid (after you unscrew that plastic piece holding the rubber ring on). I have it propped open (hope it doesnt stretch the spring to badly) to let it dry. I was noticing some air bubbles in my fuel line so I guess this would be the culprit? Anyone think this'll fix it? I'll go dig around my parts bin and see if I have any spare tanks or seals but for now I'm hoping this will do till I can order something new.

Well that worked, but it was easier than I thought... I was thinking that the leak was from the O ring setup not sealing around the tank opening when in fact it was the pressure tap plastic disc thingy from the lid that was leaking. If you unscrew the little cap part that holds the O ring, you'll notice that its just a plastic to plastic connection which was allowing it to leak out. I put some RTV on the bottom of the plastic disc and placed it back in the lid and now its as tight as tight can get because all the pressure is going in to the tank instead of escaping through the sides of the lid. The large rubber O ring on my tank was sealing the inner sides of the tank opening but it didnt do much with that little plastic disc allowing pressure out through the top of the inside of the lid. Hope I'm not confusing, trying to be descriptive.... Not sure if this would cause the air bubbles cause I've never gone through this before. I'll try to retune and run again today before work and pray this fixed it...

I found that my O-ring on my Himoto Syclone wasn't sealing the gas tank properly...after replacing it with one from my universal set (whole bunch of O-rings) I hear a pop when I open the tank and have to push it down a bit to close it...also put some aviation Gasket Maker on top of the plastic piece cuz that may be leaking too...can't check if it leaks right now (cannot start my car therefore not putting fuel in it) but I'll keep ya posted

nitro engines run from 220 to 260, anything above 270 is usually running hot. When an engine is running hotter than this and there is no air leak and its running rich i would try a colder plug.

In answer to mjwes19 yep you got in one. Glow plug most likely. The glow plug should burn brightly & soon as it diminishes they need changing. Engines will run but poorly if that. The life of the plug could last days to weeks. It all depends how you have been running your engine.
In regards to engine temps, don;t stress the .27 is known to run at its best at that temp. It does still depend on outside temps to a certain degree but I have had mine run generally between about 265-300F. I've had various people tell that its not supprising as it is a big block engine.
The team infinity engine & the orion wasp are virtually identical & the latest wasp .28 has a running temp of 280F.
So I wouldn;t stress. The only thing I have noticed at those temps is keeping the car running & preventing it from stalling. As long as you have it tuned properly though it should be fine. I've been thrashing mine heaps & it runs perfectly. I must admit it took a very long time for the engine to achieve a stable tune.
A few things though that I have done to maximise performance is replacing the airfilter with a much larger truck style one. The engine seems to just want to suck done the air & it changed the whole engine perfirmance & sound.
The other thing I did to cool it down was that I fitted a massive cooling head on it. Its from a sirio .27 big block but fits well. Amazing cooling effect as it now runs at about 180F! Had to check it with 2 temp guns. I was also concerned that it was running too cool now. Spoke to the GM of the Co. & he assured me that they runn all their buggies perfectly at that temp. I've had that for a few weeks now & has improved the performance incredibly & you could litterally run tank after tank through it.
Anyway either way they are meant to run hot in their stock form as the head is generally too small for such a large engine.

Are there any cooling heads that would fit the Vx. 18? Anyone know?

hey mjwest19 which vehicle are you speaking of? I haven't got a 2 speed myself but I am aware of people having trouble with 2 speed transmissions.
Its quite possible that it can be stuck in second I suppose. Having said that though, hesitation immediately on acceleration is usually the low speed needle setting. But since you were having plug problems did you change your glow plug as I suggested above? The very same thing happened to mine in the beggining & no matter the amount of tuning the dials could get rid of the problem. But once I checked the plug it was only half glowing & so the fuel wont ignite properly, the timeing gets scewed & the car will run like crap. Put it so far out of tune I had to get a pro to retune it.
Don;t be shy in taking the buggy to your local hobby shop hey. I have had to many times to get it re-tuned as I played with it too much. But it purrs like a kitten now. Actually the guys in my shop thought the redcat/himoto was tremendous value. So much so that about 4 weeks later they "suddenly" sell them!
I don;t know enough about a 2 speed transmission but if all else fails don't hesitate to take it to your LHS for advice.
Cheers

don't know about that engine nitrosteve but I found a sirio .27 cooling head fits the infinity .27 nicely. Awesome cooling effect. I suggest you hunt ebay or even drop a few companies emails to enguire, which is what I did. You'll need the scew configuration, the measurement of those holes & the button size of th stock head. With that info you might be able to find a different brand that fits yours. Basically with mine the infinity & sirio .27's are virtually identical engines & I made a calculated guess.
What temps is yours running if I may ask?
cheers
Matt
