hi there,
Sorry if this is a repeat, this is my first post here.
i was wondering what the maximum operating engine temp is for the VX16 engine in the tornado/shockwave. i am just now breaking mine in.
I haven't been able to find this info anywhere. The reason i am asking is because i bought a VENOM smart temp fail safe and i need to know what temp. to put in for the max temp to allow the fail safe system to kick in. Right now i set it at 275 degrees, just as a guess. any help would be great.
So far the Break in is going swell.
Thanks.

275-280 is absolute max. Good consistant safe running temp is about 250-260. Some like to run cooler like around 240 but 280 would be a safe max limit.

Cool guys, thanks.
if i remember right, the tuning guide from the Redcat website says that 230-260 is the optimum range for most of the engines (?), but to consult the specific engine manual to find out it's requirements.. i don't have anything like that and couldn't find anything in what they gave me in the basic manual, so that's why I asked.
i think i will just leave the temp. fail safe setting where it's at and just ere on the side fo safety at 275'.
thanks again.

Alot of guys like to run a little hotter for more performance. Running too cold is just as bad if not worse than running too hot. Running too cold can break connecting rods but running too hot will wear quicker.

Yes i have heard that too. Cheifly when breaking in an engine from what i have gathered.
So.. can you give me an idea of waht "too cold" would be for the VX16.
Is 230' too cold? would you say that the 230-260' temp recommendation from the redcat site is where this motor should be for best performance AND longevity??
Thnx

230 is from from too cold. 180 is too cold.. I run the small block cvrx at about 259.
Just remember when tuning with a temp gun, if your gun is off, and you are tuning to run at 260 you might actually be running at 270.

sounds good guys. i will run with those recommendations. thank you.
I was breaking in my sons car last night and the glow pug that came in the car had a broke coil, so i replaced it with an 0.S. A3. it seemed to idle faster and come up to temp a lot quicker. His just seemed to run better, more crisp and accelerated harder, where mine was a bit more doggy and loaded up. it surprised me since we were running the same exact carb settings (minus having to bring his idle down slightly). i didn't think the stock plug an the O.S. would be that much different. but i guess so??

190 is way too cold. Anything below 200 and the pinch wont expand like it should and you can break a connecting rod. ANY engine maker will say break in has to be above 200.
