Default max voltage????

whats the max voltage a receiver can handle? i know its has 4x1.5 which = 6v, i also see theres rechargable packs at 1.2x5 for 6v. it seems that as soon as the batteries get a little week, the range is greatly decreased, i was wondering if anyone has tried 6 rechargable batteries for 7.2 and get much longer run time? i was thinking 6AAA maybe even 6AA to fit into the radio box. or 5 alkaline for 7.5 volts?
let me know if you experamented at all with this

Its not the voltage that matters as much as the MAH that the battery can handle. You can get 4 AA rechargable batteries at 2600 mah that will outlast a higher voltage battery at only 1500 mah. I use Duracell 2600mah rechargable batteries and I get alot of run time out of them. The only difference that you will notice in the slightly higher voltage is quicker response. You will get quicker response from a alkaline at 1.5v=6v than you would a rechargable at 1.2v = 4.8v. So its a give and take. I would rather have the longer run times.

Yes it would. Most alkaline batteries are only good for about 900-1100 mah.

the "hump pack" battery pack they sell, has 5 cells, 1.2 per for 6v, so 6v from 5 rechargable batteries or 6 volts from 4 alkaline batteies, either way its 6v, what i would like to know is if anyone ran a receiver on 7.2 or 7.5 volts?

the voltage is what you need to watch out for tha mah is how long the charge will last

depend on rx the traxxas xl 5 can handle 7.2 and the futaba that comes with the evader will handle 7.2

not sure bout redcats

they all should handle 7.2 since the same reciever is used in the electric redcats and they use a 7.2 battery

Actually If im not mistaken most all receivers can handle 8.4 volts. Alot of ESC's can handle 8.4v therfor the receivers will have to be able to handle 8.4v. I know my Novak esc in my buggy can handle 8.4v and thats what I run and have never had a problem with the receiver.

i was going to type that but didnt want to get people confused, etc. not to mention the redcats come stock with a 7.2 battery so the recievers will handle 7.2 100%, i didnt want to say 8.4 and have a bunch of fried recievers, lol. now its your fault if they use 8.4 and blow the recievers, lol

actually i have a few esc's that can handle much more, like 10 cells, lol

so on electric models the receiver runs off the 7.2 or 8.4 main battery pack? im gunn look up on red cat and see if the elec. models use the same receiver and also use the main battery pack for power or if they have a AA pack for the receiver, if theres only one set of batteries on the elec models, then i think im gunna figure a way to use 6 AA rechargeables for a total f 7.2v, if range is dropped because of low voltage, then a 7.2 supply should work nice

Yes most all electrics that I know of use the same battery pac as the esc. I have not personally seen it any other way and I have run alot of electrics.

yup same radio. so im gunna set up 6AA 1.2 rechargables, if the voltage drop/range lost i saw as the batteries got week, with 7.2v the range may be better? that would be cool. thanks for the help off to the drawing table

I'm sorry if this isn't relevant but it's about the esc. I was wondering if the stock volcano esc can handle a 20 turn motor? I know that it's rated to 13 turns but people have tried 17 turns and fried it.
