I've used Denatured Alc. and tried Contact Cleaner (for electronics). That seemed to work well also. The aerosol seemed to help blow the crud out.

I'm thinking of getting one of [link=http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=1102]these[/link] from harbor freight and loading up som denatured alc in it. Come to think of it, I have a gallon of WD40 I've been using in a spray bottle. I may buy 2 of them.

You can also rough up the rotor with some sand paper and get a little more stopping power.

yeah but that will wear the pads down real fast, the rotor is better off smooth since there is a fiber shoe.

Good call Eddie, I should have specified...... roughing up the rotor = better brakes but also = more wear.

this is an old trick used on full size cars that had oil soaked brake shoes. You spray them down with brake cleaner (alcohol) and then heat them up someway like a microwave or oven. I did this on mine and it worked great. i heated mine in the microwave for 4 min after I soaked them in brake cleaner. They came out alright and stopped alot better

Ok... Here's another little trick I found on the web...

Homemade nitro cleaner

You can make your nitro-car cleaner easily and affordably by mixing two parts denatured alcohol with one part Simple Green. Store the cleaner inside a pump spray bottle, and top off the brew with a capful of WD-40. Be sure to shake the bottle before every application because the solvents separate over time. One gallon of denatured alcohol and a 2-liter bottle of Simple Green will make enough nitro cleaner to last months.

Then load it in the refillable aerosol bottle...

When cleaning my brake pads - I take a scotch brite pad, and tear the "scuffing" part off. I then spray a little brake cleaner/electric motorspray/nitrocleaner on it, and rub the brake pad on it untill its clean. It's not as bad as sandpaper and still does a good job.
