Default Stock electric engine question

I am new to the forum and had a novice question.

I recently purchased two redcat tsunami epx's to mess around with in the yard. Although for the most part I am satisfied with my overall value, I find these truggys to be severely underpowered. Besides going brushless, what are some ways to economically save power? I noticed the side of the box my tsunami came in said the stock speed controller is rated to 13T motors. Has anyone tested this? Is this a misprint? A buddy of mine hooked up a 19T motor to it and it melted in a couple of minutes. Has anyone else experimented with this ESC? What is the most powerful motor I can hook up to it?

Also, does anyone know where I could get a low buck motor/ESC combo that will greatly improve the performance of the tsunami epx? Don't mean to bash redcat or anything, it's just I feel like I'm playing with a radio shack tyco RC and not one of hobby grade at the moment.
