Default Pull Starter Issues.............

I went to start my buggy today and had it running for about 2 minutes when it stalled out on me. It wouldn't run for maybe more than a minute or so at a time. I tried to get it running again for the third time but the pull starter is jammed up, or something broke inside the engine, I have no idea what is going on. When I was starting it yesterday, the pull starter actually seemed to have alot of resistance to it, but the buggy did start after a little while. The buggy has driven a total of about 50 feet since I got it, and it was only on its third tank since I idled it for a full 2 tanks to break the engine in, which is the process I have done for all the other 50 or so roto start engines I have owned on my airplanes. Maybe I did something wrong, who knows.

Also found that one of the parts that holds the spoiler on was cracked and it actually broke off when i went to investigate the problem there as well, needless to say, this is an easy fix compared to the engine.

HEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol....

Thanks,

Steve the noob[]

Ok, I took a better look at the car and there was 2 rocks stuck in the gears, doesnt look like anything was damaged so for now its all good.

Ya, I took out the glow plug and cleared the chamber and then reassembled the plug and started the car. I have noticed that it takes a bit to get it going. Is this normal for pull starters? Never had one before as I have always had nitro planes and started them with a roto start.

no it' not normal, they should start with one to three pull easy. it could be that either your over priming the engine or your not priming it at all and your pulling and pulling till fuel gets up to the engine.

if your priming by putting your finger over the stinger, then you only need to get the fuel to the carb as soon as the fuel moves through the fuel line and you see it get to the fuel line nipple that should be enough, maybe no more than a eas half pull after that, then start it.

Ya, I am using the blow method to get fuel to the carb and I only blow until the fuel is right where the hose meets the carb. Then I try starting the car and it just has to be pulled on continuously until it starts.

in that case you might want to give it a tap on the stinger while the ignitor is on it while your starting it, togive it the little extra push it may need to get the rest of the way in the engine. might also try giving it alittle throttle at the same time to open up the throttle body to let alittle more air in the engine.

well blow just a little bit more when u pull u should feel a litlle bit of of resistance but not to much if u can hardly pull its flooded. and u want to feel resistance on the whole pull not just at the beginning

Oh, I'm talking like more than a dozen pulls. I thought it might be the glow starter not warming the plug, but I tried one of my other glow starters and checked the plug and both are perfectly fine. I am starting to wonder if I get a bad car here lol.... Not only my starter problems, but my chassis is bent a little as well. Was wondering why my shell wasn't fitting right, and it turns out the front of the chassis is bent up a little bit.

I'm gonna switch it over to a drill starter and see if my luck changes there lol........

I also figured out the problem i have with the bent parts on my buggy as well. Its the rear shock tower thats bent, not the chassis, so a quick fix will have it back in shape.

I use the blow method and always blow till I hear no more fuel going into the carb.
I never had an engine flood on me by doing it like that, and it always starts right up.

I'm saving up the funds now to get the body. I still need to do some work on the exhaust.
I am buying 3 more RTM kits from AllAboutFunHobbies and already have plans for one of them. This stuff is addictive! I am WAY over my head now. I am already working on a part for the next one.
Can you tell what this is going to be??!!??
