So, I bought this volcano off ebay and the seller amazing rc hobbies claims that it goes 60mph. Is there any truth to that? he's claims it on all his red cat racing trucks... Should have it up in running in a couple days had a screw break in the engine mount and had to order new mounts. Anyways just wondering if i was stupid for believing that.

i have no idea why these sellers are saying 50-60 mph out of a stock volcano with a vx engine in it. mine has the vx engine, the header, the tuned pipe and a high flow air filter, and it MIGHT hit 40 mph if i'm lucky. but really, when you are off roading, speed isn't the main thing that you want...you want low end power and torque...and the volcano has plenty of that if you ask me.

I clocked my volcano at 40 with the exceed wheels (they are a bit smaller so with the volcano wheels it would be a higher top speed), a rpm pipe, header, aftermarket air filter, and the direct drive. But like rob said top speed doesnt matter unless your onroad, and ya sure onroad is fun. But that only fun for a while.

yeah i did the on road thing with an electric car awhile ago. it's only fun for a day or 2, or if you are able to actually race on a nice flat laid out track. if you are able to actually race one on an actual track, it is kind of fun i guess.
but, to me...jumping and tearing up grass, and dirt is where the fun is...it isn't the same thing over and over like an on road car.
you will find that the stock volcano is plenty fast for off roading, but you will soon find yourself wanting to upgrade it for more power.
i'm at that stage right now. the direct drive will be my next upgrade.
