Mark i started today to retro fit the volcano, dissasembled the front end the gear cases fit perfectly on the chassis, the a arms have to be filed down a little:D, not much, but the main problem i hit was the pinion inside the gear case[:@], it seems the pinion is a little to short ,an in the new gear case the e clip can't be used, it hold the pinion in place, so i will try later to retrofit the old case with new arms somehow:eek:

RE: Ball joint type steering for Volcano?

Well that's not good. I wonder if the pinion is different?

Maybe Redcat Support can get us the page in the parts book????? or tell us if there's a different part number???
It would help allot.

Mark

Well it seems the pinion for the gear box does not seat right or is too short.(see pics from cartronics)

Just need to know if that pinion is a different part number. Also the page in the parts book with the breakdown of how this steering set up is assembled.

Thx.

RE: Ball joint type steering for Volcano?

Ahhh you want me to get a .pdf of it? specifically for the volcano?

It's page 14 in the book I have right here ....if you want the .pdf i can email it to ya. i don't have access to the redcat site so somebody can host it and link it

cartronicshn 06-09-2006 11:45 AM

RE: Ball joint type steering for Volcano?

It seems the space between the 2 bearings that hold the pinion on the gear case is a little taller then the stock case, that means the pinion on that set up would be longer 2-3 mm maybe

RE: Ball joint type steering for Volcano?

which case are you talking about?

I'm a little confused, I think, because I'm not sure which case you're asking about, and which pinion...I think I'm completely lost in the conversation, lol, somebody catch me up to exactly what parts you're using?

I know that you ARE talking about the diff case, btw, i'm not that dumb:P

I'm just not sure which case you're looking at because the one for the Lightning I've got torn down in front of me looks just a tad different than mine

RE: Ball joint type steering for Volcano?

read the first post these are parts Mark, from topspeedoys got from china i think, to retrofit the volcano, so some modding would be involved[8D]

oh geez, i finally understand, LOL.

I'll go dig up a NEW Volcano manual. be back in a bit:D

RE: Ball joint type steering for Volcano?

We are working on converting a VolcanoSTX to ball joint setup like Volcano SV.
The pics are of the front diff gearbox.

We don't have a drawing or anything to go off of. I sent all the needed parts to two people.

f/r diff box's
up/lwr control arms
ball joints
steering arms

We have all the parts already. The hold up right now is the pinion gear for the front diff.
