RE: noob to rc

It depends if you want on road or off road. If you want off road, I think most would agree that the volcano is a good starter.

RE: noob to rc

well it depends on you budget, how much do you want to spend?

popo59 07-28-2006 07:37 PM

RE: noob to rc

i was hopping to not spend over 250 so what do you recamend?

RE: noob to rc

I personally like the buggies better...I've always liked them low...they handle a lot better...but you don't have the ground clearance when you're bashing.

Connormon 07-28-2006 08:09 PM

RE: noob to rc

Well if you dont want to spend more than $250 then you should get a Volcano SV at a minimum. If you are realling to spend around 270 then get the Volcano SV pro. It comes with a whole bunch of upgrades installed on it. 259 on www.Topspeedtoys.com. But then you would need to buy a starter kit and all that stuff too.

RE: noob to rc

Redcats are one of the most affordable brands in nitro RC, The volcano STX is still $160, but id spring an extra $20 the SV, because it's probably more durable (its the latest Volcano). Personally, Id go for the SV pro, cause its got alot of aluminium parts, but if your looking to not spend alot, definately the Volcano SV:)

RE: noob to rc

is the tornado sv single or two speeds?

popo59 07-29-2006 09:23 AM

RE: noob to rc

also why are the 1s on that website so much cheaper??

Connormon 07-29-2006 06:24 PM

RE: noob to rc

Popo i was trying to figure that out myself, but i can assure you mark (Topspeedtoys) is a great buisness person and obviously has some great prices going on right now. If im not mistaken i think theyre having a sale. I would get the Volcano SV. Its not too expensive and its got a few more upgrades than does the Volcano STX. I personaly dont much like buggies for various reasons and think trucks are just all around much more fun.

popo59 07-29-2006 06:28 PM

RE: noob to rc

is the volcanoe sv a 2 speed??

Connormon 07-29-2006 06:45 PM

RE: noob to rc

MrCheezeWhizz 07-29-2006 06:55 PM

RE: noob to rc

Himotos are basically the same as redcats.
Yes, Redcats are RTR, so they all come with a radio

popo59 07-29-2006 07:05 PM

RE: noob to rc

does himoto have a web site or some place i could veiw them and if so are they cheaper or more espensive than redcats?

popo59 07-29-2006 07:32 PM

RE: noob to rc

tell me if you think thish is a good place to start bashing. the place is a 4 wheeler track its preety nice tell me what you think.

MrCheezeWhizz 07-29-2006 07:32 PM

RE: noob to rc

I think they have a site, but ive heard it's very poor, not sure of the address. and both himotos and redcats are priced in the same range, as far as ive seen.

popo59 07-29-2006 07:33 PM

RE: noob to rc

Connormon 07-29-2006 08:51 PM

RE: noob to rc

the himoto website is himotoracing.com its pointless. And what do you want us to see? As far as a good place to start bashing? Just make sure its open and doesnt have many cement objects.

jguitarsandcars 07-30-2006 12:16 AM

RE: noob to rc

I have a himoto syclone pro with the two speed...been happier with it than my son's traxxas stadium maxx...I've been able to keep it running a lot longer and it was much cheaper...I got it on Ebay 'cause I was given a $200 cap (OK so I spent 225 out the door, but I got a bunch of extra glow plugs, in line fuel filter, and starter kit)...but learning what I have since, I'd get from Mark at Top Speed Toys...I still need to figure out what I need to place one order with him, but he's been great with people in the threads and has good prices...

As far as truck or buggy, everyone has their own opinion...depends on what you plan to use it for, and what you want out of it. If you plan on flatter dirt, or jumps and want top speed, go with the buggy, if you're going over rougher terrain, where you need the ground clearance, go with the truck...but what I've seen in the threads vs my personal experience, I think the buggies are more durable, as the bigger wheels put more strain on the drivetrain and suspension components....Just MHO....

popo59 07-30-2006 01:14 PM

RE: noob to rc

so all you are telling me that basically dont get himoto?:D

popo59 07-30-2006 01:18 PM

RE: noob to rc

also i played the jump game and beat the game. im not sayin that im gonna but if i do get the buggy which is the xp should i save and get a nother car and wait till i get better to run the xp. or just run it right away and strip a ton of gears or what. oh thanks for all the info so far.

ehroof 07-30-2006 01:26 PM

RE: noob to rc

run it until the gears strip and then buy a single speed for the xl and put it in the xp.

popo59 07-30-2006 01:54 PM

RE: noob to rc

how fast does it usually srip gears.

Popper252 07-30-2006 02:13 PM

RE: noob to rc

Well it depends on how well you can set the mesh inbetween the gears. I've had mine on there for about half a gallon the gear looks almost like new. But then again I remember when I first got my car I was stripping a gear every 5 or so tanks of gas.
So really it all depends.

popo59 07-30-2006 02:44 PM

RE: noob to rc

how do you strip gears?
