VOLCANO SV upper arms
1 Attachment(s)
Just out of curiosity, has or does anyone's upper arms have excess slop in them? Since day one when I opened the box, my driver side upper arm had a TON of slop at the hinge pin. By the time it got to the wheel, it was just crazy. It was almost as if it was missing a shim, but it had 2, just like the passenger side. Anyway, due to a hi-speed crash into a chain-link fence, I needed to replace a lower arm. I ordered a whole new set, as I'm sure I'll need a part eventually, and replaced all 4 front arms. To get back to the point, when I put the upper arms back on, it was better, but still seemed a bit loose. I put some small flat washers in there to tighten up the slop. Worked like a charm! You'll notice I ended up using one of the 2 shims that were originally there. Basically it's just adding an extra shim, but I feel better knowing that the washers are metal and larger in diameter. They give it a more solid feel.
Check it out... |
RE: VOLCANO SV upper arms
i think they are like that to give them some play for when you hit something if they are solid arm will break easier but if loose well theres more play so it usually wont break as eay

RE: VOLCANO SV upper arms
I would love to find or make a wide bumper (like chubbysuncle I believe) to prevent any front end damage. My shocks keep getting mangled.
As far as the solidness of the arms, they arent that stiff and the plastic will still allow some give, but you really have no idea how much play thay had, at least the driver side. The guy at my LHS noticed it right away. BTW, aside from that, the dude was pretty impressed with the build of the VOLCANO, and he primarily deals with Traxxass... |
RE: VOLCANO SV upper arms
Just wondering if putting all of the washers on one end would change the caster by a noticeable difference. Maybe with pivot ball suspension or I guess centering the arm would eliminate the chance of binding with C hubs. I think I just confused myself again.

RE: VOLCANO SV upper arms
Hey bud, from what I've read on this forum you want to shy away from the two speed. Read the thread about why do the gears strip out...there is a lot of info on this forum and my memory won't let me tell you exactly where to look, but it is here. Hunt and read and you can glean a lot of info from the threads on the firs page. Ehroof, popper and the chubbys (uncle and dad) along with several others will set you straight. I didn't leave anybody out on purpose here, just can't remember them all. Read around and ask questions and welcome to the forum.

RE: VOLCANO SV upper arms
also does it come with a 2 speed stock The SV Volcano comes with a single speed. If you maintain it properly very dependable Monster Truck. If you run it into things going 40MPH, its gona break. If you don't keep screws and nuts checked and tight, they will come loose. Good starter RC Nitro for the money. |

I will highly recommend the Volcano SV. I've had mine since October 5th and have gone through just about a gallon of 20% nitro, driving a few tanks nearly every day. The only issues I've had are a bad fuel tank out of the box (easy fix though; the elbow from the tank to the carb wasn't drilled properly so I cut the elbow off and screwed the fitting in vertically)a split lower font arm (grazed a fence full throttle) and a few worn teeth on my spur due to my gear mesh not being tight enough, but I tightened the mesh and have gotten over 10 more tanks out of it! A lot of people have problems with spur gears, mainly on 2-speed trannies, but if your mesh is set properly, you won't have a problem. I've replaced the stock tires/wheels and radio system and it's a very reliable and super fun (and fast) rig. Get one!!!
The only problem with Redcats is that you have to get stock replacement parts online, but that's not an issue. Aside from the arms and certain components, there is a compatible aftermarket upgrade for everything else. This is where I got mine. This dude is reliable and fast and he's selling for dirt cheap! - http://cgi.ebay.com/Volcano-SV-RTR-1...em280044791714 Make him an offer and see if he can throw in a nitro starter kit for free, or at least combine shipping. I got my truck and starter kit shipped for $195 total! Have a looksie - http://s113.photobucket.com/albums/n...gAnch=imgAnch1 Once you see the first , keep scrolling through to the right... |
