Electric flyin fence post
Hey there folks, I always wanted to get into RC flying but never had the free cash. That was until I found SPADs. I put toghether my own design from different plans to build a basic trainer. First problem was the lack of PVCgutter so Isettled on a plastic fence post from Home Depot for the fuselage. Ibought everything I could on sale or clearance so the total cost to get flying including a 5ch Airtronics radio came to less than $175. I went electric and have moved onto a larger motor since my first flights using a 9x5 prop to now turning a 13x6.5 I have gone from basic trainer to basic aerobatics.

Nice plane, nice background! Your approach is how I like to do it! With the elections coming up soon, there should be plenty of SPAD building material for the taking (ask first). I am still looking for free 2mm coroplastic, I have plenty of 4mm. Good luck.
Sincerely, Richard

Hi pharlophus
I hardly ever use PVC gutter square tubing for the fuselage. I use aluminum square tubing, or channels, or angles, purchased from Lowe's for the fuselage. Sometimes I put the battery, receiver, and some of the servos inside the wing.

No it is a PVC I-beam 1 inch square, it comes with a large metal spike on the bottom and a step to push it into the ground. It also had large hooks up one side to attach light chicken wire fencing for temporary fencing. I cut off the spike and tapered that end, I also cut and ground off the hooks and drilled holes to lighten it. The post had a 2 inch square flat head on top which made good place to attach a piece of plywood for a solid motor mount. It has a 52 inch span.

I just found gutter pipe at a McCoys Building Supplies in Cleburn Tx. A 10' stick cost $10.66 OTD. It measures 2.5" outside and 2 3/8" inside so I suppose it is the american pipe.
