Default Free Coroplast?

I would like to get my coroplast for free. I priced this at FastSigns and its $25 plus tax...they only sell it in 4x8 sheets. TOO MUCH $$!!!

I noticed on the spadetothebone websites and other places mention you can get this stuff for free and suggested the gas station. I went to the gas station and they don't know what I'm talking about. They said they don't throw many signs away and they showed me that most of them are just thinnly printed cardboard.

What kind of gas station? What am I looking for?

Or, is there another source for FREE coroplast? Any suggestions?

One source of free coroplast if you live in a rural area is seed signs. Now that harvest is wrapping up, they are there pretty much for the taking. Be sure to get permission from the farmer first though.

I don't even know what a seed sign is.. I live in the city area... But I could drive to those areas. But here in California...I think they grow and harvest year around....just put it winter crops and keep going.

Yeh, I've been looking at them...so far just see little cardboard ones...but I know I've see coroplast ones before. Maybe as we get closer to the election, some candidates will invest in some better weather resistant signs.

I haven't been able to find any signs that a gas station owner is willing to part with. I believe the vendors put them up and they're made so the price can be changed without actually changing the sign. The signs I've seen are all 30 inches wide and about 4 feet long. That nix's the .46 QHOR because it's 36 inches wide. Guess I'll have to buy some. You can get it here for 20 bucks a 4x8 sheet.

--hmm, good idea. So far, I can't find anyone willing to part with a corroplast sign. And, the more I look, the more I see cardboard, wood, and metal signs. Even went to the arts and crafts store. I really like the idea of a coke sign plane.

Picked my Coke sign up at the grocery store next door. Might look at those ones they hang from the ceiling.

Gas stations, convienance stores, smoke shops, liquer stores, Bars, grocery stores, Big public events like concerts, fairs and airshows, elections, you name it. In Kansas they are everywhere. There is also links to mail order coroplast at the bottom of the Spad site and more on the hints and tips pages much cheaper than FastSigns. I heard several stories of guys asking Pepsi and Coke truck drivers....explaining what they were doing with it and it would be great advertising. I know of one guy on the West coast that called the local Coke distributer and got 40 sheets of freshly printed Coke signs for free.

Veerry Interesting. Before anyone answers 2MuchThrow you should read the thread "Liability of SPAD" to it's conclusion. Note the timing!

Rumaging in the garbage?

I have found that asking works better, and it leads to them getting to know you and saving signs for you. I have quite a selection, and any more, don't even need to ask

I already asked them and they want to charge me an arm and a leg for it....when I know they are throwing pieces away in the back the size I want.

I found 1/4" (they say they don't sell it in metric sizes) at tap plastics for $18 for white and $20 for color.

I think in my plane, its very important to me that I spend less than $50 and use materials that I have found or have gotten for next to nothing. I've already gotten expensive planes I'm afraid to fly!!!!

at the mini marts that have lots of signs in the window look at them close, some times they just put the latest signs in front of the older ones and would love to get rid of them, I have a Coke driver right up the street from me and have 5 coke bottle signs right here beside me ,,at the sign co. just ask them to order a sheet when they make their next order,, and here white is higher$$ yellow is cheaper at like $11 for 4 x 8...Rog

Whilst $18-$20 isn't cheap its not so bad either. bear in mind that an 8 x 4 sheet is goina be enough to make 3 or 4 planes. Now, $5 per plane isn't so bad?

Default RE: Free Coroplast?

well. i had that kind of problem with finding coro. i was gonna order form US or UK but the shipping was about $114 since i live in the middle east and there isn't any arround.
no one even knows what i'm talking about yeah.
but the other day i was standing by a phonebooth and a sign advertising NOKIA was made of coro. i went into the shop and asked for the price of it in case i wanted to buy. he gave it to me for free since he had another one.
now i know where to go next time. add to that he gave me the contact number and e-mail for the manufacturer close by. about a 3 hour drive from her.
and here i am starting on my first spad.
i looked for coro for almost a year with no result at all.
now i know how u feel. i hope u do find as soon as possible.
Cheers.
