Default SPA3DT - Twin aileron servos -or- not??

I have a Futaba 9CAP radio and the idea of flaperons intrigues me.

Is the gain in: control response/throw/stall speed worth the wight impact?

Ten bucks for another servo is a lead pipe cinch if makes an already great performer
even better.

Thoughts?

i've been using 2 aileron servos for most of my SPAD's for ages, not because of the flaperon's BUT beacuse by locating them in the midel of the ron you gey MUCH better aileron authority.

if you do use them for flaps by setting the flaps to a switch and not a knob then setting up HEAPS of flap you can do a funky looking aileron snap loop thingy

Cool. Looking forward to that. Yep.

Or put it on the rotary slider (thats what i think it should be called) on the side, and experiment to your hearts content!!!!

Don't worry about the weight penalty. It is negligable. I have a 2 servo wing, and it is cool to have the flaperons. Just do it. Dont overthink it. It is a SPAD, not a super light weight dont get it dusty or the wing loading will go up, only fly it in a gymnasium micro weight airplane. Stick 2 servos in the wing, hook up your flaperons and go fly the thing.

I use a single servo on two SPA3Ds and one QHOR.
So, I've ended up with some extra servos to use on a new plane!

All three of my SPADs work great with one servo, I don't know
if I could notice the difference if I went to two.
(I've only been flying for a couple years now, not a pro yet)!

When I build a SPA3DT, I will use two servos, since this
model had faster airspeed and more torque will be needed. (I think)

Right on. Thanks.

Big_Daddy,

I have been putting a single servo for the ailerons on most of my planes, from fun-fly to combat, but put two on my latest Debonair and newer combat ships. For the Deb I used a RNAF wing with constant chord ailerons, and only trimmed the corners off at a 45* angle. The Deb doesn't roll quite as well as my DPS, but the increase in authority has been a pleasant surprise on all of them. I'm going with two from now on, ESPECIALLY on the 3D birds!

Interesting thought about flaperons; even more interesting about a Deb doing a "funky looking aileron snap loop thingy!" Woodsy, I hope you haven't started anything I'll regret!!![X(][8D]

Blue skies,
DL

I saw it first on an ARF super chipmonk, this guy had his flaperons set to max throws and flipped the switch when doing a run straigt down the strip, if you can imagine the plane doing a loop by sort of throwing the wing up and over the tail thats what it looks like.

very wierd

so, you mean it did a loop with the tail coming under the plane, with the nose flipping where the tail was? That would be awesome. Makes me want to put flaps on my Super Chipmunk...

One of my buddies has a Kombat Airmadillo that he modified, and added flaps to it. He can poke that plane around so slooow, and when it's windy, practically stall it in mid-air.

Two servos also let you make adjustments to aileron reflex while flying this is why I like them, oh yeah they look pretty cool dropping down at 45 degrees while landing also.

Do it for sure, adds another dimension to the plane, I gotta agree with novabliss here, the flaps down landings are great!
