I decided to trim about 1/8" off of each side of the I beam for weight reasons. After trimage, the 5' Ibeam came out to 14oz. Not bad for supporting 155 pounds.

Still working on Fin and rudder design....want to get as much area as I can for rudder.
Enjoy!

Hi Herb-
We think alike! My plane is similar to yours....I used twin booms for the fuselage too. I have twin rudders in the rear.....F-15 style!! ha, ha. I have a Super Tigre .90 in the front.

My wing is fully symetrical. I assembled it wrong....I have the flutes going spanwise. I now know how to build a wing correctly with the flutes going chord-wise but I am going to stay with this wing for now and see how it works. I have a 1/4"X2" spar and I have a class 200 pvc pipe glued to the leading edge with poly glue. I drilled holes in the pvc pipe to make rivets with the poly glue and the leading edge of this wing is very rigid. I should of cut a few more flutes out in the leading edge to help the coro conform to the shape of the pvc pipe, but I am hoping the flat leading edge will allow the plane to slow down. The wingspan is 44 inches and the chord is 22 inches. The fuselage is 48 inches.

I am at the stage where I am trying to figure out how to mount the symetrical wing onto the fuselage and have the correct wing incidence. I am sure it will require shimming somehow. I'll probably make a wing saddle from wood that will fit into each channel and then I will bolt the wing on with 1/4-20 bolts. How will your wing be mounted? I need to install the 1/4 scale servos in the rear first so I can get the C/G correct. That's a Super Tigre .90 up there.....enough power?

Wayne H, For the wing saddle I would cut some flat pieces from the PVC gutter about 1 1/2 tall and whatever your cord length is and screw it to the side of the fuse then trace and cut the airfoil shape at the top that should work fine while keeping the weight down. then after the First flight adjust as needed then mark the underside so you can line up the wing next time out. Good luck

Seems like the PVC might be sharp edged (if I see it correctly in my mind) and cut into the CORO. What about a foam wing sadle? light and strong and easy to make. Just a thought.

The thing with fuel, is it eats foam you would have to protect it.If you cut a doubler wing wrap around the center of the wing this will protect it ( the pvc) plus you can sand any Sharp edge. Just a thought.

Actually, I have yet to find a foam that fuel would touch. I built a Home depot pink foam PBF (56") Never painted or anything. Flew it 'til the dog ate it! No, fuel won't bother foam.

gas will
pour some gasoline on it...
you'll see different....hehehe...
Of course Wayne's is glow....
Mine will be gasser....
I'm thinking of just doing a block of my furring strip angled to support spanwise flush with the leading and trailing edges...
I might do a "saddle" of some sort though...

Another Name
You could call it "The Filthy WHOR" I really like the idea of glueing the trailing edge and then putting in the spar. I am going to use that on my Somethin Extra I am still sorting out in my head as I build. Good Luck

Here comes the names...
Future ad for my giant SPAD plane:
(these are all referencing the PLANE)
:stupid: Big Flat Cheap Sloppy WHOR with folds, has gas and smokes.... she's tough, you can knock her around, and see how far she flies.....she's heavy though, so don't expect much...gotta use a chainsaw just to get her to move out of the way.
She ain't a looker....but she's a keeper....
ps- sticker police...there's a bar code label on the other side of the furring strip...I didn't peel it off on purpose just for that reason...hehehe...

TOOOOOOOO Funny!!! If my wife ever saw that post I'd be out of the hobby, if not the house!!!
Oh, and I should have specified, glow fuel and foam do mix, but not Gasoline, or acetone, or some diesels, or JP5, some rocket fuels, and all hot exhaust!
