Great Racing as always at Speedworld for their annual Mardi Gras race. I believe there were 27 entries in 3 classes.
Plenty of fast planes and great heat racing. Congrats to Jerry Widmer for CDing the event and the Speedworld Crew for flawless heats thru out the day.
The electrics are definately fast, but it was YS Engines that swept the trophy places in the Gold Class.

Just wanted to say we had a great time racing and thanks to all of the people that took the time to put on the race we appreciate it. Also thanks for the acknowledgment that the electrics were fast. It looks like you forgot to mention the electrics took first in silver and bronze. Also that an electric plane was too fast and broke out every heat in gold.

Yea Andy you guys were all fast. Didnt forget to mention silver and bronze winners as I dont race that event so I just didnt mention it.
The elec plane in gold didnt break out every heat, in fact the first heat I believe he had a prop strike on take off and DNS.
The only way I could keep from breaking out was to go extremely long after lap 6. Even then I still broke out once and almost again.
I was going for the win at this race, not fast time.
If I were, the elctric probably wouldve gotten lapped.

Yes you are right I did forget about the first heat in gold. I do think you might be stretching the truth a little about being able to lap Chris in gold though. I have yet to see any plane fast enough to do that. That is going to take one heck of a fast plane. I think that is what drives all of us to go and fly at these events, the fun and friendly competition. We are definitely looking forward to the next race. Maybe we will see this illusive fast plane we keep hearing about.

Maybe, If it makes it back from Sacramento undamaged. And you saw an extremely fast plane last Sat. It just needed to be harnessed to try to win the event. Even though Chris kept trying to taunt me to duke it out with him, that sly old dog. I kept my self disciplined and stuck to the plan to try and not break out. Ive been where he was in trying to just go as fast as possible. I love doing that, yet there was a different mission for that race - trophy.

Next time you guys come out we can hopefully play. I think my next RCPRO race will probably be Cedar City.
This time I will take you guys out to dinner and it wont be popeyes....

Thanks to Jerry and the rest of the staff at Speedworld for such a great race. I have never lost so bad and had so much fun. I know epileptics who could have flown better than me that day. Even Marty flew better than me, I must have really been off my game!!! Just kidding, you know I love you Marty, great racing as usually, sometimes I just want to break your golden thumbs, haha. There were some highlights I am compelled to recap. My brother in law flew his first warbird race ever and placed first in silver. Congrats Wes, I also have to thank Ethan for taking one for the team in order for Wes to win. I believe Ethan is our youngest warbird pilot. Awesome job Ethan on your last heat. Your like a "big stick of butter" on those sticks. Andy took first in Bronze and I am embarrassed and want to apologize and say I did not get the name of the first place gold winner, congratulations. Andy and I keep pulling on Marty to try and get him to the "dark side" (electrics). I am afraid if he ever joined us Richard V. may never speak to any of us again. Richard's a great guy and I know he could kill me with his thumb. Looking forward to Cedar City. I spoke with Richard and he is planning to attend if his schedule permits. Tony Pacini was planning to attend but it looks like he may not make it this year due to work. I promise to lap Marty for you Tony even if I have to cut 12 times to do it. This is going to be the perfect storm in gold. Looks like we will have to decide if we want a plaque or bragging rights...

Shannon Widmer ( Jerrys son) won 1st in Gold. I was down by 2 points due to a break out time of 1:29:38, and had the 2 pilots in front of me my last 2 races. So if I could beat them both, in each of the last 2 heats, as well as get low legal time in case of a tie, I could end up 1st. I told Tony Lopez, my caller what we needed to do. He is an unbelievable caller. Not one cut all day. My second to last heat we did just what we needed to do. Then my last heat with Shannon, we made a side bet on breaking out. We were going strong, and worked up a big enough lead to lay back and not break out. Then on the last turn I go a bit long to keep from breaking out, and Shannon turns inside of me and crosses the line a half a second in front of me, and barely above break out of 1:30. He flew a flawless race and deserved the win. His turns were at the poles, his needle was perfectly set and did it all with a stock ARF. Oh and a monster YS110. Not even using the new YS115WS. He must have been running 65-75% in that thing. It was an exciting day.

Hi Guys,

Jerry sent me the race results. I am attaching them for your enjoyment. Looks like there was some very good racing. Don't forget that the next race is here in Hesperia, CA on April 26. Looking forward to seeing all of you.

Blessings, Terry

Just wondering... did anyone capture some action from this race? I know a few had cameras with them but haven't seen any pictures yet.

None of the E racers are going to Hesperia. We are committed to helping pour concrete at the flying field here in Chino Valley. We will have to miss the race but are still planning on going to the next one in Cedar City.

I just wanted to see how the warbird race in Hesperia went. Were you able to make it Marty? As Andy mentioned before we were pouring concrete here in Chino Valley so we are sorry we couldn't make it. We are still planning on attending the Cedar City race. Looking forward to seeing you guys again.

Hey Chris,
I didnt make it. I was in AZ that week with airplanes but I was one who was fooled by the weather report and didnt take a chance on driving there. Wish I wouldve. Looking forward to seeing you in CC. No need for hot plates there, weather and altitude will be your friend .

I missed a great race in Tuscon a few years ago and the E-fest due to bad weather reports. How hard can it be to predict the weather??? Anyway, if you don't like the weather in Arizona just wait 10 minutes...

I know the race is a month or so away but I am already getting those race jitters. My thumbs are in desperate need of a speed fix. Andy's got a new electric plane that will make its debut at Cedar City. I spoke with Bud and it looks like he and Glen from Chino Valley are also planning to attend. I also hope my brother in law, Wes from San Diego, will be able to join us. There are a few other pilots from here that are on the fence about attending. If they decide not to attend I will post their names and we can all heckle them!!! I am also excited to see Mary (my mistake, Marty) get a second place trophy. I had high hopes that Richard V. was going to attend but after I spoke with him last week it looks like he may not make it. Maybe it's better that Richard isn't going to make it, I don't know that Marty could handle 3rd place. You know I'm just kidding, I am the only guy who got 3rd place Bronze while racing in Gold. They were using an hour glass to time my laps. Looking forward to seeing everyone in Cedar City.

See you in Cedar City Golden Thumbs.......

Chris,
You are quite the comedian.
You guys always crack me up.

Richard may make the race, nothing official as of yet, but plans change and things happen so lets hope so. Even if he does and I end up with a 3rd, Im good with that. 3rd in this field of gold pilots is pretty good for chick named Mary. I talked to Tanner yesterday and he says you are bringing him a plane and he will be there. If Richard is able to make it, he would likely bring a few racers with him. This could be a pretty big race after all. In the end it will be super no matter what. Lets hope some of the Hesperia guys can make it too.

Im heading to Richards next week to pick my new stiletto and then race it in Redding at their 2 day event. Lets hope this one makes it back with me so I can race it in RCPRO. My old 160 MPH Toni is nice, but nothing like the lil stang'. 2 lbs lighter and quite a bit smaller wing area. Maybe I can keep up with your Ebird.
