Default 8th scale models Tsunami build

Hey all I am building a scale model of the Tsunami for a YS 115. It has 517 square inches and hope to be at 6 lbs or so. I will also try to put pictures in here to show my build.

After Jeff get's his up and flying so you will know exactly what the total materials will need to consist of. Sound Fair?

Just a little more work tonight. The wing with servo so far is 6.5 ounces, a bit heavy but the square carbon tube is some of that weight. The carbon isn't needed but I plan to fly this one hard.

I know the front wing hold down block looks bad, but it isnt there for strength just to add strength for the 1/4-20 nylon bolts. This is so it wont pull thru the wing. I added it after the retract mount so not normal stuff for me.

Right wing is 90% done and started on the left wing last night. Should have wings done by this weekend. Right now the right wing panel with servo and hobbico metal retract is 10.5 ounces. add covering and other wing panel should come in around 28 ounces. I will try to be under 6 lbs on this plane or thats the goal anyway. we will see.

Added wood to the tabs as they broke easily. went out of step and added sheer webs while weighted down. quick sand on right wing and wing tip. need to sand the aileron with the wash out in it.

man the wing looks really short. i added the wing tip for crash resistance if go off field with it. This will add about 10 square inches to the total area for around 527 or so.

More work done. I didn't build the tail up the way it was designed. I didn't understand the instructions. Since I didn't build it correctly it isnt as strong as I think it should be so I will not use it in a Gold plane. It may be fine but I an going to chance it.

I was curious how your build was coming along. Thanks for posting, Jeff.

Is anyone else having issues opening the pictures to see an enlarged view, or is it just me (and my computer)? I haven't been able to enlarge any that I have tried.

I put the stuff on the scale last night. The wing with retracts and all servos is 28 ounces. The fuselage with hyde mount, elevator and three servos is 27 ounces. The engine with header and spinner is 31 ounces. So minus covering, switch, tank and battery its around 5.4 pounds. So I think it will be around 6.3-6.5 pounds. more than I wanted. I didnt do a good job on wood selection. as the wing skins are to soft and the elevator didnt turn out like I normally do. The wing airfoil is a darn good one so i think the wing will be very fast. i think it will be a 1:20 airplane but we will see.

Yes i did sorry for not updating this. Plane is fast and flies great. the one pic is just a prop I was messing with a 15x8 Zoar, way to small for the YS. If you want a fast plane, a scale plane or a fast scale plane contact TDstaf.
