OK Heli experts...maybe older Heli history buffs.. what do you see in the picture? What kind of Heli? Is the Captain sitting in the heli part of the 5th Army? Just what info can I get from you fellows about this picture?

This is a picture of my father-in-law others in his group and the Heli, we believe shortly after WWII ended...1946-1950.

Thanks for any info we can get!

The helicopter is a Hiller H-23 Raven. It first flew in 1948. The patch is from the US 5th Army.

It is an OH 23 B the picture provided by AandP is an OH 23 C.

Hello Paul and A & P that narrows it down.. Paul what’s the noticeable difference between the B & the C version?

The only thing I can spot is the pitot tube is up by the swash plate. On the A and B it was under the nose.
