Default scratch designed Ultimate Biplane.

Using an OS .46AXII. Pictures tell the story.

Basic preplanning

cutting the ribs

2x hacksaw blades together to slot out the leading and trailing edges for the 1/16th ribs

first ribs down on a 5mm2 spar


nice joints thanks to the razor saw.

1/16th sheeting

2 1mm ply sandwiched together to make a curved wing joiner

wingjoiner in place


1mm ply sheerwebbing epoxied in over the wing joiner

starting the bottom wing

measuring the servo slots



carving the trailing edge



nice smooth tips

drawing up the HS

HS gluing


drawing up the fuselage plane

1mm aluminium sheet for the carbanes








all the plywood fuselage parts layed out

gluing the doubler on the 2mm balsa sheeting

3mm longerons


dry fit to check progress, looks straight so far

build update

rear turtle deck.

front turtle deak

vertical stab drying

middle wing strut attachment points

710 grams, well on the target weight of 2.2kg

carving the canopy plug

8oz tank fitting

engine fitted, the carby lines up perfectly with the bung

rear cowling former

start of the cowl front





channeled out top wing for a 1mm plywood seat for the wing affixing screws






elevator control rod in place





apparently i chosen buzz lightyear colours


servo hatch made


contrasting colour schemes


ready for maiden

fuel filler valve fitted. engine runs fine on the ground with it. longer landing gear fitted as well. I messed up the vac forming of the canopy, too hot. There is no plastic in stock so this one is there temporarily.
