I read somewhere that TurboCad LE was available for download free. Is this true and if so where can I find it? Or, can anyone recommend a decent CAD program I can get to view plans?

Yup, Turbo Cad 4 LE is a rather good program I am an extensive user of the program and am using it to design the Meridian. I'll be happy to help if you have any questions...

Thanks for the replies. I found it, downloaded it, and put it on a cd before I even opened it up. Now I got it for good.
Still got to figure out how to make this drawing tiled onto three sheets.

Just curious Jim where you found a free download of LE. I have it already but the site I have recommended to others for a copy doesn't have it anymore. What a great way for someone to get started in CAD.

Try this site: I've slept since I downloaded the file but I believe it's the place.
I recommend that when you download it put it on a cd for future reference, then open the program and install it. Mine works great. I was able to get it setup to tile print a set of .dxf plans onto 8 sheets of 8 1/2 X 11 paper right from my little ole printer.

It looks like the FreeCAD site has their own copy rather than linking to the non existant Digital River LE version. You need to register to get it but that's not a bad deal.

Anyone that even THINKS they want to try CAD should register and DL it now while they can.

Thanks Jim.

Here is a link to a free version of TurboCAD 2D. If anyone needs assistance with drawings I use AutoCAD 2005, CADKEY Workshop EX 21.5 and 3D Studio MAX 5. I am currently working on some plans for a Horten Go229 and Vought XF5U-1. The XF5U-1 will be finished first. Past the preliminary stages and just about in to the final detailing. If anyone is interested let me know and be patient. My email is [email protected]

The link to the free cad is here:

do you have it set up to be cut on a CNC Mill or Laser? I have access to cut parts on a CNC router.

I use Autocad 2000 just layout a rectangle the size of the sheet of balsa (3" x 36") and place the pieces on the sheet with spacing (I would use a 1/16" cutter so the spacing between the piecses would be 5/32"). I can also cut all the parts out of 1/16" thick laminate as templates.

My printer will not print anything over 17" long unless I use a CAD program and print it in Tile Format. That's where it prints a LOOONG drawing on multiple sheets of paper and you can tape them together.
I use Turbo Cad LE and it will draw the banner as long as you want it, you just have to st it up to print on several sheets of paper.
