Plans for Bi-Plane?

RE: Plans for Bi-Plane?
Crash,
You need to be a bit more specific. What type of biplane? What type of flying? Free plans or commercial ones? Sport plane or scale? Are you stuck at 50cc or can you go a bit bigger? If you can go a bit bigger on the engine, Larry Lutton has an excellent set of plans for a 29% (I think it was) Bucker Jungmann. They are from the Bucker's that Dick Hanson designed and built for Steve Rojecki to fly in the early TOC's. They are light (18-20lb with a reasonable engine) and fly superbly. Balsa/foam wings and a built up fuse. I plan to put a G-62 in mine when I finally get there.
If you are interested, search on Larry Lutton here or PM me for his e-mail address.
Thanks,
Mark

RE: Plans for Bi-Plane?
Sorry. I would prefer a sport model like an ultimate, weeks solution, etc. I would like to stay at 50cc because I have a DA 50 already.I don't mind paying for plans.

No problem. In that case, look at Precision Cut Kits
http://www.precisioncutkits.com/aeromatic.htm
The Procraft Models are the old Ohio R/C planes, carried on by Bob Ankne, who was one of the principles in Ohio R/C. The 63" Ultimate is very well thought of and I think you can still get cowls/ canopies, gear, etc.
You can order the plans from Bob and scratch it or order the kit as well, your choice and it would be a great choice for your DA.

There is a 68" Pitts 12 that was available through a thread in this forum a while back, as well as a kit through Gunderson's company if that would work as well. I'll see if I can find the web site address if you're interested.

Gunderson Aero Design did the Pitts. They were just trying to get enough orders for another short kit run, too. You can also get the plans free if you want a comlete scratch build. I have a copy myself for one day.

RE: Plans for Bi-Plane?
mmattockx. I wonder how the Gunderson Aero design would handle a DA50. Seems to be more in the 2.10 class? I sent an email to precision cut kits to see if cowl and canopy were still avail. They havent gotten back yet. I really appreciate your help. If they have cowl and canopy I may have to do a build thread on it.

RE: Plans for Bi-Plane?
I got ahold of precisioncutkits. Apparently they will only sell the kit (325.00.)
They said the only place to get the plans would be through procraft. They, however, appear to be out of business? Any ideas?

I think the M-12 would be fine with a DA-50 on it. It is going to come in around 14+lb as drawn, even with a light engine, and that really cries out for 50cc power to pull it around. The wing area is given as 119dm^2, which converts to 1844sqin. Span and length are 175cm each, or 68.9" which is a fair sized bipe. Plenty for even a G-62 if you wanted. Don't forget bipes are real power hogs and the left stick works both ways...

RE: Plans for Bi-Plane?
Crash,
I purchased plans for a Weeks 72" that I planned on using with a Taurus 52. You can probably still obtain a copy from Dave Dessecker ([email protected]); he might be able to direct you to a short kit as well?
I have been contemplating a blown up Skybolt as well.
