Default Scratch/custom muffler

Hey there RCUers,

I'm scratch building a SU-26, kinda from plans. I've had some MAN pull-out plans for an .049 version (by Nick Ziroli) laying around and am using them as "inspiration" for a slightly larger version. I shoe-horned my ST .90 in the front and don't really want to use the stock muffler. Its too big and ugly, and there's really not enough room in the cowl for a pitts style or similar.

I do however have a lot of space available under the tank floor. Imagine half a cylinder 5" long by 5" in diameter. I attached a crude MS Paint rendition.

Is there anything I need to consider in doing this?

I'm not looking for a performance muffler, just something to shut it up.

What is the best material for this? I would assume aluminum?

What are the thoughts on this?

Thanks

Aluminum... do you have a way to weld it? Steel or brass may be easier to work with. How hot does that ST 90 get? Will it melt solder? Will it melt 'silver solder'? Can you braze the muffler? What can you wrap the muffler in to prevent burning the plane apart? I like the original idea, but have these questions about the installation.
