Default WIG craft - lifting fan

Hi,

My name is Donovan, I'm a fourth year aeronautical engineering student undertaking a design project for a company in australia. We're looking at the preliminary designs of a one-man recreational WIG craft which can hop out of ground effect should the sea get choppy. The company is targeting a recreational up-market, kinda like a flying jet ski.

At this stage we're quite keen on a Lippish Design (reverse delta wing) with S-shaped airfoil section and we're looking into the viability of putting in a lifting fan to aid with take-off and added manoeuverability in ground effect.

Does anyone have information on the effects this will have on stability? will it require some kind of augmentation control system? and if the benefits outweight costs and complications to the design?

Default RE: WIG craft - lifting fan

I ran a quick google search for "surface effect craft" and it appears that most of the technology exists in Australia. Except for the Russian Ekranoplans, Oz seems t be a hotbed of development. In the US ten or so years ago, I remember seeing an ultralight personal Suface-effect vessel which got a lot of press in Popular Mechanics and other magazines of the ilk.
