Old Kingfisher Kit
I was going to build a old kit I have but a friend said I should keep as is in the box. He said it was a valuable kit and go get another seaplane kit. So my question out there in cyber space is this kit really worth that much or should I just build it. The kit is manufactured by Champion Model Aeroplane Company Inc. It is a Anderson Kingfisher Amphibian with a wingspan of 72 inches to be powered by a 60 to 90 engine. I got this kit about 25 years ago (maybe longer). Thank you for any replies.

RE: Old Kingfisher Kit
It's probably worth more than a newer kit would be if you found the right buyer
Not like you'll ever get $20,000 for it, maybe a couple hundie tops if the right two guys started a bidding war
Copy the plans ans scratch build one if you like the model, thne you have the best of both worlds

RE: Old Kingfisher Kit
I agree the kit isn't worth a whole lot. Not many people even know what a Kingfisher looks like. I for one like the plane and can relate to its era. I'm planning to build a seaplane this winter but undecided which plane to build. My choices are a PBY, Lake Renagade, Widgen, or perhaps even a Kingfisher. I've always been fasinated with seaplanes. The problem is having a place to fly it on a regular bases. I wish yo luck if you decide to build your kit.

This is a scale Andrews Kingfisher. High wing, engine above wing, with wing tip floats and retractable wheels (like the last version of the PBY).

RE: Old Kingfisher Kit
Does anyone have a photo of the Anderson Kingfisher. RC Modeler magazine carries a photo on the cover of the October, 2001 issue. I wonder if the kit is for sale or if the person simply wants to build it. I just bought a .61 size one with radio adn engine for $135.00 at a plane show. It is ready to fly.

Responding to a PM asking about the Lake Renegade, here's a picture.
The plane started life as the Colonial "Skimmer," through various sales of the company, reorganizations of the company, repowering and enlargement of the plane, it was the "Buccaneer" for a while, the latest version with 4 or 6 passenger capacity, and a 250hp (270hp with turbo) engine it is now the Renegade.
Bill.

RE: Old Kingfisher Kit
Thanks for the Lake Renegade picture. That sure is a beauty. It does look like the Lake Buccaneer. I have a real weakness for seaplanes since I live at a lake and have 24/7 access for flying. I have an 80" wingspan Grumman Widgeon under construction. I'll talk about it in about two years when it's finished.-----------------------Larry

RE: Old Kingfisher Kit
I have a 1/4 scale Kingfisher with retracts which I fly regularly of water. I have another one almost finished, but without retracts. I have the model plans as well as the full size plans as a friend of mine has one sitting at an airport not far from here. A friend of mine kits the 1/3, 1/4, and a 1/5th scale Earl Anderson Kingfisher kits in Sydney Australia. Great Airplane. Cheers Allen

RE: Old Kingfisher Kit
Thanks for your patience, Bill. I finally saw the plane and it's a beauty. I'm old enough to have remembered it during the WW11 years. At first, I thought you were speaking about the Anderson Kingfisher, which is the plane I think is so sharp looking. After a while, I hope to become more adept at using this site because I have stuff I'd like to share with others also. Thanks again.

Howdy Larry
I must have led you wrong. The kit is a Anderson Kingfisher (amphibian), and is produced by Champion (now defunct). The wing span is 72 inch and the engine required is a 60 to 90.

RE: Old Kingfisher Kit
Does this look similar to yours Bigguyplanes? This was at our last float fly and I'm pretty sure he said it was a Kingfisher. Twin Saito 91's. Flew pretty good, but liked to catch a wing sponson on landing. Was beautiful in the air too. Second pic is my Seacruiser II flying by.

Here are a couple of shots of one built by a friend of mine up here. It is the Aussie kit in 1/3 scale. If I recall it has about a 12 ft. wingspan. It is powered by an OS320 and flys GREAT. I have water taxied it and found that the plane handles very nice.

RE: Old Kingfisher Kit
I am about to start on a Kingfisher, 108" wingspan. Does anyone have any ideas for a retracting undercarriage? How does the fullsize gear work? Is it anything like the Catalina retract system, and if so, any suggestions on how to make it?

RE: Old Kingfisher Kit
Goinstraightup and biguyplanes, that is a Kingfisher modified,
Don Kunath of the Castle Rock Flyer's made the Kingfisher from plans out of RC modeler. Don told me that it flew like crap with a single engine so he made it a twin with two Saito .91 4 strokes. Other items of interest on his plane is that the wing is from a Hangar 9 1/4 scale Cub I think, and the motors are set at 5 degrees outward thrust and the engine nacelle's were set so that the props would be 2 inches away from the fuse body. Don tells me that he is in the proccess of changing the outward thrust to 3 degrees instead of 5 and he is adding more control surface to the rudder as he says there is not enough control especially in windy conditions. Don also said that he would move the nacelle's closer to the fuse body by one inch but it would be to much work for to little return in flight characteristics. Very neat plane but it sure did look like a handfull to fly in the wind
