While this is pretty much a seaplane forum just wanting to know if anyone is into float flying in a big way.

I have several planes on floats and a few of us local modelers fly at a lake in the Ocala National forest area.

I run Seacommander floats on most of them but also run a few Ikon N west floats as well. Feel free to post what your flying and using for floats.

Default Sig Smooth Floats

I've been using inexpensive Gee Bees and built up floats, I ordered a set of Sig Smooth Floats, anyone have experience with these. I like float flying much more than ROG flying.

Default FLoating CUB

Hi Forum !
I live in Houston.
I took a Hangar9 Piper Cub 81"span
put SeaCommander Floats
a SAITO twin 61 BK (the cylinders sticking out either side looks close to the real thing !!! )
the floats are the EDO similes painted silver with a black stripe on top, plus twin water rudders...
OK....plane is finished.........where to go fly it ???
Showed up at the only local Club with a water runway and asked permission to fly, once.
Even with very adverse conditions ( 15mph wind - whitecaps on the water - nearby tall trees ) made a very difficult ROW...once airborne the Piper just grooved. The first attempt at landing was 100% OK.
That's all.....................
Now I would like to "continue" flying from water but have no place to take it to........
My first DIG.Camera should come in this week. I could post a picture, for your evaluation, if so desired.
Best of everything
RICK

Default Floating CUB part II

I signed off too soon ! sorry
I was about to write that based on the performance of the CUB I may add SeaCommander floats to all my other models of the PiperCub.........( well maybe not ALL of them - like the 1/2A HOB - he he )
I have the 1/3 - the 1/4 - the 1/5 - also a 1/6 - another 1/4 with FLAPS "and" spoilers - that one should be a whopper on floats - it runs a G-23 and the spoilers UP make it come down almost vertically - in fact, once, with a high steady wind it landed backwards into the tail wheel !!! can't repeat that anymore, I guess, it was a fluke but it looked incredible.
Oh, well, NO EXPERIENCE with FLOATS, but looking forward to getting some.

Nice to see the float talk don't seem to run into many float people.Have a Goldberg Anniversary Cub with there floats flys bueatifully and is very durable bad crash demolished body no damage otherwise rebuilt and back flying.Gee-Bee sea Hawk a fun little plane with there floats this only comes from tower as float plane no gear and there floats with a 40 flys nice takes a while to lift off.Sea Dancer bought used and haveing engine trouble just remounted it had it upright and think tank was to low now on side will try that.Enginew is old Max60 that I put a Perry Carb on.Tried my telemaster 2000 with a 60 today again bought used has flown lot of flights but today wouldn't come off the water has flaps will try them next but never used them and previous owner said he didn't use them.Live on a lake with pontoon boat in the front yard but just don't get around to going out by myself really have to push myself to go out.Different when there are others there like at a flying site.

Default Float Planes

Float Planes
There are a few of us in the local club here that are really into float planes. I myself have a Kadet Senior on the Sig 1/4 scale floats. Also have a Balsa USA Northstar, and am working on a 40 sized Schneider Sport plane. I have aquired many plans and am looking to build the Seamaster II which is a 25 sized version of the Seamaster 40. There's nothing quite like the feeling of flying off water - all that runway - you know!
Enough for now we're taking off in a few hours for a float-fly near Sacramento, CA.

Have Fun all!!!

Bud
