Default Float Cub Pics

Alright, there aren't a lot of seaplanes out there but I did come expecting to see more Cubs. Post some float Cub pics.

This is mine, its a Sig 1/4 scale with a G23. I just gave it an overhaul (new covering, radio & engine & fixed some structural issues) after 12 years and decided to do floats this time for the first time.

It's pretty cold here so I probably won't be able to fly it till spring. Oh yeah, the floats are from Balsa USA.

Looks great... I am in the process 99% complete... still trying to get the dual water rudders worked out.... With a restoration of Sig Cub 1/3. It was my fathers plane which he bought in the 70's we think....

I will post some pictures tonight or this weekend if we have time....

Good Luck with the Plane --- I hope to maiden the bird this weekend!!

Looks awesome! What kind of strut kit you use? or is it totally scratch? I'm putting Sea Commander floats on my 1/5 cub this winter and the scale "N" struts are going to be a challenge. Boy a cub on floats sure does look neat though. Hope some people post their pictures on this thread.

Well yours is going to be a great float flyer. Here is a pic of my cb. It is just a baby to yours but it flys sweet and adds some charicter to the dislpay. Also I will include a pic of mine with my buddies .60 size cub. He really likes his on floats also.

This is a rescued .20 size. It was built really bad and overweight. It only had a .15 o.ss on it and was submerged a couple times. The guy told me he just couldn't get it off the water.

I tore it all down and removed a lot of epoxy and extra glue and a few other things to make it good then covered it. I used the classic Cub yellow but wanted something to set it apart. it has a GMS.32 in it now and really flies great. I even added some no skid tape to the top of the floats to add some realism. Hope you like it.

Teryn, very nice...i'm impressed with your site! I almost bought one of those until I saw Dave Patrick was coming out with one, of course I had to wait 7 months to get it but being the scale nut that I am I wanted as many bells and whistles as I could get. Hows it fly with that 17-6 prop? I'll be using a master airscrew 18-6 with mine (scale size for 1/4 scale) Think my weight will be in the same ball park as yours. Again...nice job.

Bud:

The Saito 180 in this plane was flown before in a CAP and I tried different props including the 18x6. The 18x6 works well too but a bit less forward speed; the 17x6 works better for aerobatics. I din't have any 18x6 around so I put the 17x6 in the Cub. Performance on this plane is not an issue compared with the CAP.

Thanks Teryn, I'm more into the low and slow with this one so the 18-6 should do fine.

Hey nony! I had a feeling you'd be stopping by. How's things over at fubar? Haven't done a lot of anything lately.....just hang around the puter, my mom's seriously ill and that eats most of my time. Hope to have the super ready by next spring. I haven't flown once this year and winters setting in and they say it's gonna be a bear this year.

Hey Bud...it has been pretty quiet over there. The old Goat gave us all a scare, but he is back home better than new.

My super cub languishes in its box. I did get some exterior color on the BUSA J-3. ...something different from the typical yellow. If I enter it in a contest, I'll take the hit on color and markings, and dazzle them with my brilliant flying (YA, right!)........ now I just have 2 pairs of floats to build over the winter.

You go nony, looking real good. Glad you went with non traditional yellow, i'll do the same if I ever finish my BUSA cub ( I know....shoulda been done by now) What super cub in the box? Did you get the H9? See they are real cheap at chief aircraft and I was tempted but bought an O.S. 160 instead. I still have a set of great planes floats to finish for my telemaster. Go dazzle em with your one wheel landings.

Here's another angle.......I went to wal mart last night and bought a sheet of real dense black foam 2mm thick 8 1/2 x 11 in the craft dept for .33 cents and used it for my dash, glued it in with canopy glue. Works great!

Wow! Looking good guys! I think my next project will be putting floats on the 1/3 BUSA Cub. I'm leaning toward the Sea Commander floats but will have to roll all the change in my change jar to get them!!!! Darn was saving it for Vegas, was gonna put it all on Red.

I'm also going to need a new engine. It has a G45 which gets it in the air and thats about it. Any suggestions?? The logical choice would be a G62 but I'd like to try some different kinds of gas engines such as Brison, Quattra or even DA.

Nice cub Damon, some day i'll get a 1/3 scale. Not familiar with other gas engines but all the guy's in our club use the G62. Seems to be the ideal match although one guy has a DA in his 1/3 cub and it sounds great. If you're thinking about sea commander floats you better get your order in....their business is up for sale. Their health is not good so they're selling.

DamonTX..The G-62 seems to be the engine of choice for the 1/3 Cub...at least for all the ones that I have seen..

Bud... LOL..I guess we could call it real pale cub yellow.... I have the H9 supercub, and a pair of BUSA floats for it... I want a lighter cub for puttering around - as a cub should. I'm getting quite used to the heavy 1/4 cub, but it is not a relaxing flyer. If I had not added that extra 6 or 8 lbs of weight, it might have been...

I hear that nony. It's amazing how light the DPM cub is.....all laser cut lite ply. Even still I think it will come out at around 15-16 pounds before I add in the weight of the floats. A fellow club member bought one of the H9's from chief aircraft just because the price was right and it is a nice looking cub. He has a set of the BUSA floats built up and never used that he's selling, nice floats, I was impressed.

Hey nony, since it is yellow we'll let it slide this time
Nice set of pic's...love the detail on the blue and white one. Don't even mention air races, my son was given two round trip tickets to anywhere in the states a couple of years ago by his company and we chose to go to the reno air races, my sister was supposed to come up from carolina to care for my parents so we could go but backed out at the last minute so we decided to go to the upcoming oskosh and she said o.k. but backed out again ARGH!!! Don't even want to hear about air races
