I thought the full size was a good flying airplane? Watch the stall characteristics if you have one; a friend of mine had two Seawinds (not sure which mfg though) that would tipstall with little warning.

I am the Seawind guy!
Flyfalcons, good to see you!

Wingwiz,
I built two electric Seawinds from Anton Eisels plan that was in S&E modeller April 2000. The plane is not difficult to build but it does have some tip stalling problems that the designer told me about (after the crashes) and has told me personally that a new design will be in the works in the near future.

As far as I know, I am the only one in the U.S. who has botherd to build one, let alone two from scratch. I flew both my planes from a hand toss and plane #2 flew flawlessly. Plane #1 crashed on it's maiden from lack of power and a severe tip stall after rotation.

Here are some pictures of my Seawind. If you would like more info, email me directly at [email protected].

Rubberman98, Your not the only one in the U.S. "who has botherd to build one, let alone from scratch." I designed, drew, and scrach built a .46 powered 62" model. I designed out the bad stall characteristics. Simple realy, Just a mater of the right washout angle along with angle of attack. Flys well.
My question was about the Byran, now Iron Bay Seawind. a manufactured giant scale fiberglass Kit (Model). In the past the tails with the engines attached were failing in flight. I'm shore that it can be fixed. Thats why I asked, That and I want one.

Thanks for your reply.

Happy splashes

Wingwiz,
I'm very glad that I am not the only one whose built one of these planes .

What I meant by that was that I was probably the only one in the states to build Anton's plane twice. I'm sure there are others out there like yourself and I who have built one in different variants but probably haven't got to the stage as we have with ours.

I want to do up another one because they are so unique and unusual. I have a reputation here in my club to build the unusual. You kind of get tired of all the same ole, same ole at the field everyday. It's nice to have a bit of variety in the mix.

I'd love to see pictures of your plane.

Seawind is OK.
But do anyone know anything about the new Seastar?

Looking for a kit or plans to build a model.

Seastar looks almost like the Seawind.
It's pretty cool. Hmmm.......might have to model this one too

the only plans for an r/c seawind I could find are here...
[link]http://www.kionapublishing.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=147[/link]

Iron Bay has no info about theirs online.

I want to build one of these... (a 1:1 someday but will be happy with a model for now ;-) )

RCM has plans for a very similar plane called a Spectra II. It is plan number 465.

here's another awesome model subject just begging to be made... the AeroCat!
it is from the Creelman brothers (the original seawind designers)...

But I plan on getting a decent seawind together first... want to go the e-glass route with plugs and molds.

seawind plans shipped... looking forward to getting started.

Of those with problems in tip-stalls, does your model seawind have the wingtip floats like the 1:1? Also, has anyone added a flaperon mix? I read that the full size seawind has an optional "drooping aileron" (essentially flaperons).

Anyone having a problem with elevator authority? Just curious because that is a somewhat frequent comment by owners of the full size seawind.

Getting ready one step at a time...
I'll be getting a decent transmitter next week (Futaba 9caps Tx/Rx combo [no Sx, don't know what I need yet]) from the LHS and they carry a decent supply of balsa and CA. Didn't stock the Tx tho, had to order it.

Anyone have pix of the Iron Bay Seawind?

Plans arrived today.
Too bad they were out of stock on that S&E article, wonder if it was a construction article?
If anyone has it, were there any important details like low/high control throws?

After a quick review of the plans, 5 things caught my eye...

1. Seawind full-size uses a different airfoil (NASA NLF(1)-0215(F) )
2. Full-Size has wings at a 3 degree angle of incidence to the fuselage
3. The full-size has a critical tolerance that the wing incidence needs to equal the elevator incidence.
4. No drooping wingtip floats.
5. There aren't enough fuselage formers to accurately capture the shape of the seawind.

Has anyone modified the plans to more accurately represent the full-size Seawind? If so, how were the results?
