Default SuperStar help

Nobody wants my SuperStar trainer. So, I thought about putting it on floats and going to the lake. I need some expert advice on engine & prop, what brand of floats, setting CG, and how to take off and land in the water. The plane has an OS LA40 that seems to run better than the plane flies. Is this even a good idea?

It's always a good idea to go float flying.

My Superstar flew great on 34" floats and Enya 45 up front. The LA40 might do the job on a good day but you'll likely need a bigger motor. A 46FX with an 11-6 prop is what powers mine now and it's ideal. VMAR makes a light, 35" ARF float. Since your model is a beater, just glue plywood reinforcements on the outside of the fuselage for the float attachments. A big balsa sub fin makes the Superstar fly better too. Nobody wants my 6 yr old crate either so I lend it out to friends that are between models and don't have anything to fly.

Don't launch your floatplane like this guy!

Where should the CG be for the plane on floats? Most pictures show the plane sitting well back on the floats.
I have a Tower .46 that I can install and IF it decides to run right will pull the plane out of the water!

I just left the Richmond R/C website and looked at their floats. That is exactly what I need. The instructions download answered most of my questions. I will let you know how this project turns out and include some pictures! Do I have to wear a "skippers" hat when I fly?
Thanks for the advice.

Skippers hat not required, but a bathing suit is recommended. (Can be worn under normal flying attire.)
