Default More pic's

Big thanks going out to Climate for the sketches. It made for a great place to start. These next pic's are a few from the ground up. For any questions or more details just drop me a line. Note: all parts were built from scratch, using all aluminum."GOD BLESS DREMEL TOOLS"

Schubox, great job on the retracts! I'm semi-planning a set for the 1:6 Beaver I'm working on. Later, if not sooner.

I think that I have drawings from Climate's site. Good food for thought.

I have heard that the amphib floats have (dry) ground-handling like a shopping cart...

Hey, Bill just painted the floats today. Should be able to tell you how the "carts" handle by the weekend.

We'll be looking forward to seeeing how they handle. It will be novel to land an amphib floatplane.

Schubox

I am going to be building a set of floats for my 8' Unionville Beaver this winter. I would like to put retracts in them aswell. I cannot figure out how to design the front wheel retracts. I have never seen a working set fullsize or model size. Can you send me some close photos of the front set please? Maybe I can figure out how to do it from that, thanks

float nose gear retracts are complicated.

I spotted a super cub with floats and retractable landing gear at oshkosh one year. The rear wheels simply go back into the float behind the step.

the nose gear wheel rotates up and then slides back into the float assembly. Almost like a fowler flap. when retracted the wheel is exposed in the front section of the float near the top surface. when the wheel extends the wheel slides forward and then rotates downward. I never could figure out how the gear locked.

I shot a set of pictures for bob banka of this plane. look at his web site www.bobsairdoc.com for more details. look for a photo pack for a yellow super cub with floats and wheels. or call Bob at 714-979-8058, and ask about this photo pack.

The photo pack has details on the float and the wheels.

good luck!

clscale notes:

> float nose gear retracts are complicated.

They do look like the ultimate Rube Goldberg mechanism! I've been reading about full-scale floatplanes in the SPA forum, and it seems that "shimmy" is a major problem with the retracts in amphib floats. The 'fixes' may not be applicable to our smaller aircraft.

What sort of problems did you encounter?

Here is the picture of the nosegear on the float, rotates up and then slides back into the float. the wheel is exposed, but the bar is inside the float.

Bob Banka has this photo pack, #6947, Piper PA-18, 50 pictures
