Default Flat Bottom Floats

Any plans for a set of flat bottom floats to fit a .46 sized plane would be appreciated. Also if you have any build photos, that would help to. Thanks
Jon.

See the Chuck Cunningham article on Randy Linderman's website.
There's a link to it in my website listed below.

What Jim said. The Cunningham design works great. On the 75% fuse length (determines the length of your floats), I tend to use closer to 80%. A little longer is better - especially forward of the step.

Hi guy's i have a good idea on making floats but would appreciate any pics or details on hooking up water rudder. I found an informative article on how to make them but not on hooking up the rudder on r/c groups but i'm not a member of that forum , Anyways this will be for a park flyer (Herr little extra w/ brushless). Thanks

If your plane has a very large / effective rudder, sometimes you can make due without one. I flew a Cloud Dancer 60 with no water rudder, but sometimes wished I had one (wind).

Some people put a long wire with a rudder below their rudder. Then there's no new linkages.

I've used a mechanical linkage from the fuse connecting a pushrod. Lots of people use a nyrod (Goldenrod) from the rudder on the plane to the water rudder.

Some people use wires connecting the two, but that can be quite a project.

For a low wing model I have just screwed a normal control horn on the bottom of each strip aileron & run the rods straight back to twin rudders. Super simple & effective. Once you get a bit of speed up the air rudder becomes effective so on take off you steer with that once you line up into the wind.

For 46 size flat bottom floats I cut the basic shape from foam (I use a hot wire but you could do the job by hand) & cover the sides in 1.5 mm balsa, in front of the step in 1 mm ply, behind the step in 1.5 mm balsa & use 3 mm ply for the top & back for strength to attach the legs & rudders. - John.
