Vintage EUREKA GRUMMAN SA-16A ALBATROSS MODEL PLANE
Can Anyone tell me about this Vintage Model Airplane I recently found? I believe it dates to the 1960s, I have been unable to substantiate it's value anywhere. It appears to be complete, I have more pictures if needed, it is a "Eureka Grumman SA-16A Albatross, the Wingspan is 53", the Length is 37". I know virtually NOTHING about these planes, I think it would be considered "free flight", I don't see any engine here..completely clueless..thank you!

Well there is an engine mount detail at the nacelle
Maybe you can post some close ups of the wings and tail on the plans, or post those pics to photo bucket so we can see them larger
It almost looks like the elevator is the only hinged surface, then what is that detail at the wing tip? that makes me thing it a control line plane at first glance

The Eureka line of Japanese kits was sold in the U.S. by Eureka Importing Co. of Oklahoma City. The company was owned by Jerry Asner; Jerry was a GI in Korea and spent time in Japan in the early 1950s. An active modeler, Jerry made contact with a Japanese model company through his model flying activities in Japan - he took samples of the kits back to San Diego when his tour of duty was up. Getting some positive response to the kits, he went back to Japan and obtained permission to export kits to the U.S. for his newly formed international company, Eureka. The all kiri wood kit was unacceptable to the U.S. market so Jerry manufactured balsa parts in the U.S. to replace sheeting and large blocks; the precut kiri wood bulkheads, ribs etc. were retained. Balsa wasn't available in Japan at the time.
The advertisement shown below is from the February 1956 issue of Flying Models for the San Diego Model Shop. I suspect that this was Jerry's initial effort to sell the Japanese kits.

I would say "had enough" is right on. The bell crank included is for a U-Control aircraft. Also, I see a little right hand rudder shown on the plans for U-Control operation. I think one could easly build it as RC however.

RE: Vintage EUREKA GRUMMAN SA-16A ALBATROSS MODEL PLANE
Here are the Rest of the Photos of the Eureka Alabatross Plane. The "arched" wooden pieces in the first photo are missing number "8" for some reason, but since I don't know anything about these kits, I am wondering if maybe it's not missing and just another part somewhere else in this kit that perhaps is "unnumbered". I find it hard to believe that something would be missing from this kit, as the original owner was extremely fastidious, but I guess one never knows. There are what look to be "nose pieces" still wrapped up tightly in the original cellophane. Thank you to all for the information, I greatly appreciate it! Can someone please tell me what the metal "rods" are for?

These older kits were not easy to build kits like the more modern kits. You had to do a lot of figuring things out on your own
Was there an instruction sheet in the box?, typically that would just be a one page typed out sheet
The number 8 former is most likely one of the parts in the 3rd photo, two look like a fuselage pieces, one with the wing joiner reinforcement piece attached already?
Those rods most likely attached to the "bellcrank", that "T" shaped part in the bag (photo 7), then the flying wires would connect to them outside the wing tip.
Are you going to build this or sell it?
Neat plane for an elec. conversion
p.s.
Vey cool how those motor mounts key into the wing joiner
and even more cool are those nacelle shaped fuel tanks that would have been built into the nacelles durning construction,
No wonder it was a pricey kit

Keep asking away,, that's whey we're here
When I was a kid,,, late 60's early 70"s control line was still big. I built a few CLs before I got into radio control Gliders, I got into power much later,, late 80's
Back then you'd go to a Control Line contest and see some incredible planes
Seeing this old kit is great, I'd like to know when you put it up for sale. I always have liked the unique planes.

Does this website have it's own auction or "for sale" site to sell these planes (this website overwhelms me) on or would ebay be the best venue in your opinion? Thanks again for all your help!

Yes, this site has a classified section,, look for the buy, sell button at the top of the page.
Ebay might net you a few more looks, but I'd try and sell it here first. I always do that vs. going straight to ebay (to avoid fees)
And Ebay may get you a lot of looks, but much fewer serious buyers

RE: Vintage EUREKA GRUMMAN SA-16A ALBATROSS MODEL PLANE
Hello again, well, I tried to find the "auction" site on this website, can you please help? The only thing I was able to find on this site to facilitate a sale of this kit would be the "classifieds" where it allows you to accept "offers", and there are only 3 items for sale in the CL Category! So, maybe I'm missing something. I have problems with this site as it overwhelms me, any recommendations? Thank you kindly again.

I don't think there is an "auction" function,, just asking price,, take best offer in the classified like you've seen
I'd list in the "seaplane" category, not CL,, but clearly say it's a control line kit that a good builder could convert to Radio Control
please let me know when you do list it,, I might just make an offer,,, I always like the unique planes

Hello, I decided to just go ahead and list this item on ebay for sale today, at item # 300386693261, of course, if you have pointers or see errors in the listing, your input is greatly appreciated and thank you again for all your help as this is not my "forte"!

Greetings! I have been searching for the wing plan for this plane as I have recently acquired a partial kit. Would you still have the plans and would you consider selling a copy, please! I look forward to hearing from you.
