What engine is everybody using on the seamaster? I was told a .46fx really isnt strong enough for this plane.

A 46fx is PLENTY of engine for a Seamaster.

Minn is right on. You should have no problems at all with the .46 FX.

Hello; I had an OS 70 Surpass engine in mine, maybe not a good idea as the pylon broke off and I lost the engine fuel tank and throttle servo in the lake. I had a webra 40 on it before that, I hated that engine. Other fliers at our lake have used lets see; Merco 49, rossi 45, OS FP 40, LA 46, Thunder teger 46, even an Enya 30.

I have two Seamasters with Saito 65 four strokes and they work great. Next one is going to be electric.

I have flown 3 or 4 Seamasters with different engines on them from 45 to 50 and all fly fine - they need to have the right prop. My Seamanster flys great on a Enya 50 CX with an 11 x 6 APC prop. Just silicon on the tip floats, the velcro is not good. The tip floats don't affect flying from land either.

I had a Saito .56 in mine. Was way underpowered, took 300 ft to get off of a well groomed grass field (wheels installed). Took 3 attempts to get it off the ground without a headwind. Forced the take off. tip stalled and crashed on the third flight. When it did get off the ground it flew like it was on rails.

I had the very same concern while building one from a kit that I powered with the 46FX. I got nervous as there's some heavy construction involved! I ended up putting an UltraThrust muffler on the FX to give it an extra boost. After flying it for two seasons I don't think it really needed the extra 1,000 rpm the muffler provides. The Seamaster is just one of those planes that does not know that it's overweight.

Saito .56 on mine running a 12x6 APC. Flys great with plenty of power. 50ft or less take off length in water. Great aerobatics and scale looking flight. I like the saito because it is very very reliable. You don't need any stalls in the middle of the water. However I have an OS .46 running an 11x6 APC in my T-34 and it's another great engine and it idles so low that you can see the prop. The .46 would work great in the seamaster as well.

Decided on the os 50sx. will see how that works. If not I will install in my sig se

I'm using a OS 50 2 stk and my Seamaster is a rocket.

I bought a second wing so I can convert it to a twin using OS 40 engines,
It's almost finished.

I've flown the plane from water and black-top in stock form, flys great.

I have one Seamaster, but not yet fly (still looking for right engine). Which one is better 2 or 4 stroke? Another thing, the stabilizer seems weak.......any comment on this?

The tail feathers look flimsy but they are pretty durable. I have had a few hard landings and a pretty severe encounter with the front of my pontoon boat and the tail is still intact. I use a 65 four stroke which is probably on the upper end of the scale.

I put flying wires on mine, just one on each side. The tail feathers survived a devastating crash with no damage to them. The front end was beyond repair. Use an OS .50

Here are some of Chuck's piccies....

The engines are OS 40 FSR ABC with 8oz oval tanks, plastic nacelle covers and the wing floats are from Lainer.
