Thought I'd post some pictures of the bellanca I'm building... After a 1.5 year hiatus I finally got back to it.. I'll power it with a Evolution 35 gasser ( MVVS 2.15).. Has a 120" WS (1440 sq/in) and as far as weight!!! your guess is as good as mine..

Dillion I drew my own plans for this one.. It is 1/6 scale so has a wing span just over 10'.. I will power it with a Evo 26 gas engine.. And it will be on floats!!! As far as weight, it is going to be up there, high 20's mid 30's.. We'll see when it's all said and done... Have got a bit further, just puttering away at it...;)

Good work Darren. Here for the perusal of all are the bare bones of my Bellanca Skyrocket.
Scratch built from Jerry Bates plans, 115 inch span. Power will be Zenoah 26.
All is built except the floats. Now to get it all together.
May be ready for spring if it ever warms up enough to use the shop.
Lorne

So far so good Lorne... I hope to have it ready for Shuswap this spring, got the week off so I'm going to try and make it for the spring float fly.. I see we seem to be on a same kind of wave length;) Your building a Skyrocket, I'm building a Aircruiser, my next plane will be a Fairchild FC-2, yours "might" be a 71... And also your work table is like mine with the Makita drill and the Elmers polyurathane glue...:D

cf-drg: This is a very interesting subject. BTW, all your paintings on your wall are of jets yet you are building an old round engine plane. :)

Kmot, all those paintings and coloured drawings where done by "me"... Yes I have other hobbies;).. I'm a big fan of 50's and Vietnam era jets... You know, when a new design came from one of the "10" or so companies every 6 months... My favourite is just over my left shoulder, it's a big old F-105 Thunderchief... And by the way all the Old Radial ones are on the wall to the right (out of the photo), but they're there:D..

I like the scale muffler. Did you make that yourself?

RE: Bellanca aircruiser

you are going to have to bust out a wall to get that thing out of the house! and then rent an 18 wheeler to haul it to the lake for you, then you will have to rent a boat house to put it in! :D

anyway.. i love the plane, you are incredibly talented and as such, should feel blessed! i love the plane, i could just stare at it.. keep us posted on how it is coming along, can't wait to see it completed!

The pilot and copilot are here and checking on my progress... It's primed and ready for some paint, so going to go with red/yellow... Thought about scale colours, and they just weren't appealing to me, (only 4 ever really done up as bush planes)...So going with my own... Still have to sheet the floats and get them glassed and mounted... Did a weight check (engine, muffler, radio gear, batts, servos) without the floats, so far were at 22.5 pounds, so might come in under 30lbs (that would be nice)... We'll see....

Kmot, I did make the "scale-ish" muffler just out of K&S and other brass and copper fittings.. It's all silver soldered together, but might have to modify it... That long pipe to the canister, might be a wee bit too long.. So I will just add another expansion chamber close the the manifold... We'll see what happens;)... Also it (the bellanca) does come apart, wings unplug, struts all come off and floats and that whole main strut assembly unbolt from the main air frame... So should be able to get it into my full size truck and canopy[8D]...

And last.. I do paintings of radial air planes... It's not that great, but I did the Stearman just after I got out of Highschool, so it's "ROUGH"... the others are from the 80's-90's, the F-102 is pencil crayon... The others are acrylic (no oil, take to long to dry:eek:)...

Latest update... Muffler is modified, wings are primed and floats are sheeted, also hinged the ailerons... Did up a colour picture of what I might paint it as, and call it the 5th one to be used in the bush;)... Slow but sure...

Darren: You have a lot of talent and a real gift. I am glad you are sharing it with us. :)

I have made some custom mufflers myself. You did a super job on yours!

It's just awsome.

I love planes from this era and I appreciate the work and talent it took
to get this far.

It took me a year to build a Birdi Old Timer.

I am truely looking forward to seeing more photos.

Thank You
