LT40 on Floats
 

I'm building an LT40 kit with Plane Fun floats, I'm going to bolt the wing on similiar to the way a PT40 is done and I'd like to take dihedral out of wings and mount a servo for each aileron in the wings. Questions is : will this work or does anyone have any better ideas or advice. I'm going to use a MDS 48 for power.

I wouldn't mount the servos outside of the fuse if you can. It's just inviting the water into the servos. Other than that I would think it would be just fine.

All the mods you said will work fine.
CDallas' admonition about the servos in the wing is valid, but my experience is that gravity is your friend keeping the water from intruding at the servo openings. I use wing-mounted servos and water CAN get in there, it just does not seem to. That being said, the LT-40 doesn't "need" dual servos: there's no flutter problem I have ever heard of with the LT-40, and it doesn't need flaperons. Your only advantage would be more headspace in the cabin area because the ail servo would not be hanging into the cabin from the wing.

One of the things I did with my LT40 after a couple of years was to add dual aileron servos and, keeping the original aileron servo and torque rod linkage, and turned the inner 1/3 of the original ailerons into flaps.

This modification was not really necessary, but it did give good practice for bashing planes and using flaps. AN LT40 with flaps is interesting...

Plane Fun floats are balsa sheeted-foam core floats. So far I'm making 3 sizes 27", 34", and 42" which relate to 20, 40, and 60 size. They are flat top, taper sided, vee bottom with mounting blocks included. See pic of 27". I do not have a web site yet, but may do so soon..... Seaplane

Would like to know also, just finished a set of foam floats for a Kadet Senior, and have an LT40 ready for floats. If the cost is fair I would rather have the foam dust and particles in your workshop than mine. Would apprecate any info you can give. Please E-Mail. Thanks, Joe

I was emailed the price, and I do believe it to be quite fair. They are not the cheapest ever, but there is quite a bit of work done to them. They are like Arf floats, or rather ARC. I have not made up my mind to order any yet. I did order these, and they are on the way: http://www.foamcorefloats.com

They look cool, so I gambled and ordered a set of the medium ones. Probably can't go very wrong for the price.

So now I have 2 sets of floats, and none are on an airplane yet! Oh well, Summer is always pretty late here in Oregon, but very nice!

Just recieved my set of Plane Fun floats. Ralph Smith needs to be congratulated on a great set of floats. I ordered the 40 sized size. They are the best I have ever seen. My check is in the mail for a set of 60 size for my Flyin King. Thanks Ralph, will let you know how everything goes.
