Older OS engine head and backplate screw sizes

I seem to recall seeing information about OS's head and backplate screw sizes on the web in the distant past, but three hours of fruitless searching (and scrolling through this forum) did not bring...

GHQs??

What I _do_ have experience with was CS engines. These were ROUGH, looks like they were put together by someone using a file, a hand drill and other hand tools. The prop nut is SUPPOSED to...

RE: discharge from muffler

Black oily streaks/residue CAN mean a screw (usually a muffler screw but sometimes a mounting bolt) is loose. But it'd be BLACK, not brown, and you'll see it in the vicinity and "downwind" of...

RE: Several Questions about Starting Glow Engines.

Yeah, AMA competition rules, and even FAI rules (for F2D). When Norvel came up with the spring starters for their AME engines, that caused a brief controversy (ruled against by the Combat Event...

RE: Debris in Fuel Jug

The white flecks that settle out in the winter? Not sure what they are, but among the people I was around, this was supposedly wax or gum in the castor coming out of solution. The result of imperfect...

RE: Testing the new NV (Norvel) .40 size (6.5cc) gasoline glow engine

Interesting. I didn't realize there was a problem getting castor oil to mix with gasoline in the first place. The old WWI rotary engines used castor oil (total loss system), but they probably use a...

RE: Several Questions about Starting Glow Engines.

RE: Several Questions about Starting Glow Engines.

S.O.P. for one-flip starts in Fast or Slow Combat (.36 engine) or even Speed Limit with .25 and above sized engines.

1) Launcher holds model, turns it upside down. Give engine a GOOD WET prime...

RE: The Ultimate question - when does it make sense to go gas from glow???

Just curious - which brands of oils are the esters? I was given a can of triester-based synthetic oil by a friend who worked for Castrol, he said it made really good high nitro 1/2-A fuel but be sure...

RE: Engin ID Help w/ pics (1 Fox / 1 McCoy)

If the Fox box is original to the engine, then it's a "Rocket", not a "Stunt". I don't know very much about old Foxen, but if I recall what I've read on various forums correctly the Rocket series...

RE: Evolution .52NX Glow Engine kills in flight

Taking out the shim(s) would increase the compression ratio. This would allow you to use less nitro (or no nitro) but it might cause pre-ignition and overheating (not to mention blown plugs) with...

RE: FOX ENGINES

Well, I'd go a little later than that. The Mark VII was pretty competitive, John Lowry ran one in Slow Rat at a Nats, can't remember what year, the very end of the 90s IIRC. He said the only non-Fox...

RE: FOX ENGINES

The Fox Stunt is a good engine for low-performance "Slow" competition classes. Everyone uses the same engine, so it's competitive by definition. Sometimes the rules specify the airframe as well....
