RE: Aurora 60 Build Thread - Electric Power

The lg mounts: It'a a secret method held by the one who fly bad like me (aka who don't fly pattern [:'(])!
14X12 had a far better prop brake, I was able to land a lot slower with it... when it was...

RE: Aurora 60 Build Thread - Electric Power

I forgot to mention, before playing the 2nd vid, crank up your speakers so you can hear the noise during the dives.
It is trully addictive

RE: Aurora 60 Build Thread - Electric Power

Hi guys,

Cool you like it, love its sound... that's all prop noise and wood resonance. A sheated wing won't make as much noise...[:-]

The grass is a bit long at our field, I may change...

RE: Aurora 60 Build Thread - Electric Power

For your information I tried the 13X13 today with a more rearward cg...
A lot less thrust but a lot more speed... I even had to reduce the throws...
Landing is also faster (less prop brake)

RE: Aurora 60 Build Thread - Electric Power

A123's voltage drop is too important above 40amps to be useable.
You have to run them 9or10S2P which almost equates nimh's weight!

RE: Aurora 60 Build Thread - Electric Power

This setup is not in the same league as what Jeff needs for his aurora.
It would take him at least 2 hours to charge 1 pack using all the hardware at full specs

RE: Aurora 60 Build Thread - Electric Power

For the power supply ramboy in its time on ebay provided good ones for 12$. Otherwise you can get a good one for 30$.
Stay away from PC power supplies... good ones are more expensive require some...

RE: Aurora 60 Build Thread - Electric Power

Except that hotliners use 15 to 17 inch square props (15X15 to 17X17). They are using short bursts (less than 10 sec) at 200amps from a geared setup.
A pattern ship use an amount of continuous...

RE: Aurora 60 Build Thread - Electric Power

From experience,

Electric motors are able to efficiently turn at high rpms even more naturally than big props at low rpms. Remember: The lower the winding, the higher the kv (rpm per volt), the...

RE: Aurora 60 Build Thread - Electric Power

Hi guys,
FYI
With the 14X12 (1500W-in setup) we had around 7.8-7.9k rpm and clocked the plane at 180kph straight & level.
The 14X14 was too much for the esc (1900W-in setup), but we could see...

RE: Aurora 60 Build Thread - Electric Power

Jeff,
First, on the weight issue... you can save a lot by using a UBEC. Medusaresearch is providing some hi current/5A continuous/6 volt Ubec... that's the one you need.
Second, it is unfair to...

I removed mine in order to place a micro servo on the top left corner to operate the nose gear... reliably...

RE: Post your classic plane photos here

Here is my well used aurora currently being restored (will power it either with a MVVS 91 or a plettenberg outrunner)
It is one of the lightest & ugliest Aurora I have ever seen
