I have taken it to a track. We need metal gears or a slipper clutch to make it a great race car. Without one of those, you will have problems at the track (I did).

I use the traxxas connectors. Sometimes I install them myself and sometimes I buy the packs with them on there already. Deans are good conectors too.

I use Nimh EP4600. They work great. Lipos are good, but for me, they are still a little bit too dangerous. I'm waiting for them to be come a little bit more "idiot proof".

I was using Nimh's and they may not be powerful enough to see the true power. From what I have seen, lower KV motors do better with nimhs. On another brushless project I finished, I'm running 14.4...

Large E savage/E maxx pinions...

Where can you buy a 25t - 30t 32P pinions for the E savage and/or the E maxx? The highest pinions I can find for these trucks is 22t in a 32P. Should I use a 48p pinion at this point?

Which pinion are you using? What are those pinion shaft sizes, 2mm? Do they come in smaller (lower number of teeth) sizes? Do they wear out quick? What pitch do we need for our rc18t's?
