It's actually quite different. In IFR practice with a hood, the instructor has full view of the aircraft surroundings and has the same point of view as the pilot that is under the hood (i.e, from...

RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum

demenicis,

Rio, eh? :D My hometown!

You can get LiPos at very attractive prices from HobbyKing, have you tried them? The downside is that shipping & customs clearance takes almost forever.

RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum

Wow, this thread has been going on for some 8 years! I stepped by to see if it was still active. I'm glad to report that after all this time my #4 is still going strong. The canopy is pretty beaten...

RE: 20CC: fuel flow, thrust?

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Since this will be far from WOT, it seems safe to assume 15-30min endurance on a 16oz tank. This project is for an autonomous UAV, and if more endurance should be...

20CC: fuel flow, thrust?

Hi guys,

What should be the expected fuel flow from a 20CC gasser engine (say, a G20Ei with a 15X6 prop) in mild cruise, non-aerobatic flight? IOW, how long should I expect a 16oz tank to last?...

RE: Younger Pilots

How true!
I got into RC in 1976. Was very active until about 1990, then was somewhat on-and-off until fully picking it up again in 2005.

I have other hobbies (kinda difficult to support them...

RE: servo setup/wiring question

This might be what you want: http://www.dionysusdesign.com/index.php/cPath/29

6th and 7th items on that page are servo rate reducers. One slows down the servo to 4seconds total travel time, the...

RE: Spoileron with DX7

Hey guys,

Thanks for your thoughts.
I am well aware that this whole flap/spoiler/aileron thing is far from optimal or even practical for model gliders. But this has been a pet desire for many...

RE: I soared with a Bald Eagle today!

How about this for flying with a soarer (I saw this on the TV news):

A hang glider pilot found a buzzard's egg, took it home. It eventually hatched, but the bird never really left the guy's...

Spoileron with DX7

Hi All,

Flying in a tight area here, so I'm thinking of modifying an existing electric glider's wing to incorporate Fowler flaps, ailerons and spoilerons.

The idea behind the spoilerons in...

Sailplane brushed/brushless conversion

Hi All,

I've been flying RC since 1976 but am very new to brushless electric.

A flying buddy purchased a Hobbico Upstar ARF electric sailplane (kit came with a huge brushed motor, 9.6V...

RE: WIND TUNNEL EXPERIMENT

Don't forget other fans. So they may go from the CPU cooling fan, to the fan on a large airliner turbofan engine! :)

RE: What's a Header Tank good for?

I see where you are coming from but IMO the Rx battery pack is not a good source for glow power. I feel that turning electricity into heat at the glow plug is a not too noble use of energy that would...

RE: What's a Header Tank good for?

I wouldn't want to draw a few AMPS off my Rx battery for the sake of driving a glow plug, but YMMV. Also, the site at rcatsystems states a year of *batery life*, not *battery charge*. There is a...

RE: What's a Header Tank good for?

If you got tired of recharging batteries on the electric helis, you are in for a grim surprise with nitro birds. You will actually have more, not less batteries to worry about: Rx, glow driver, 12V...

RE: TREX 450 V2 in 10 MPH Winds

I came from a Raptor 50. Flew it for two years.
I now fly a T-Rex 450SE V2 and a Miniature Aircraft Spectra gasser heli.

You know what? I'm done with nitro. You won't see me playing with nitro...

RE: How to replace belt in T rex 450. Belt coming off why???

Got it.
I do recall that the original Trex seemed like a reduced-scale replica of a Raptor, with identical control layout. This probably explains the left-over pulley.

Thanks for replying.

RE: How to replace belt in T rex 450. Belt coming off why???

Hi guys,

Was just lurking here... what's the deal with removing the idler pulley from the tail gearbox? Will it improve anything? Why then does Align spend $$ attaching it to the heli to start...

RE: CX2 TOO BIG

Yep.
About two years ago I bought a Walkera DF4 just to see what RC helis are all about. I taught myself to fly it, not without countless crashes, and amazingly it survived them all.

I then...

RE: Flying problems with Raptor 30 V2

It is not so much the intensity, but the quality of the wind. If it is blowing from the sea or vast unobstructed plain terrain, chances are it will be smooth even if takes some effort to put (and...

Gasser helicopter forum?

Hi All,

Unless I grossly overlooked, I don't think there is a gasser heli forum here in RC Universe.

My feeling is that gasser helis are becoming more popular (OK, mine is the only one at...

RE: Raptor 50V2 gasoline conversion

Brian,

I think people overstate the gasser/3D issue. Those helis do it all! I have seen a few videos of the Spectra Gs, Predator Gasser and others doing pretty wild things. In fact, watching the...

RE: Raptor 50V2 gasoline conversion

Hey Brian,

I think you found a good way to go.
You'll start from a proven engine conversion and still have lots of fun converting the heli.

A very good side-effect of this is that you'll...

RE: Raptor 50V2 gasoline conversion

For a Raptor, instead of redesigning a glow engine for gas, I'd try the Webra gasoline engine. It is probably a 90-size fit, so you'd need to experiment with a larger than 50-size Raptor (might fit...
