That sounds like a neat idea, I can't say enough about how acam did it though. It's so simple it should be a sin. Mine's holding up great. Only change I did was use long Wally World Paint Sticks...

You just epoxy the fuse to the foam, cant get much simpler? Just poke pinholes in the thin plastic like mentioned in the plans and it should be no issue.
