Gas conversion that has good performance vs weight?

If you do go through with a conversion, get a CH Ignition with syncro spark. It's well worth it. Don't listen to that guy Terry at CH about this either--he might try to talk you out of it. He talked...

Fuel mix for Zenoah G-23

For break-in, I use Penzoil at 50:1. My flying buddy used to work for an ultralight plane mfr, and this is what they used. Since he was the only gas flyer I knew at the time, that's what I started...

Good, AND cheap!

I use a Magnum Hobby People pump. They are one of the few that has a seal that can take both gas and glow. I like it so much, I'd have bought one to replace my electric pump on my glow engines...but...

Fuel Dots

I've got a list of Fuel Dot suppliers on my Engines page. They may be listed under Misc...use your ctrl-F search to find them on the page.

I've use a couple brands, and they all seem the same.

conversions...

First, I must address the comparison of the Homey Vs. Ryobi. The Ryobi engine is about half a pound LIGHTER than a homelite. I have 3-4 Ryobi's, both short and long shafts, both 31 and 28cc's. I also...

RCV 120 Update!

Kregg,
How does the saying go? "I hate to tell you this, but I told you so..."

The problem is that you were trying to get 45cc power out of a 20cc engine. It just isn't going to happen. For the...

2.4 gasser I'm ordering one tomorrow

After running my BME, I'd never buy another Brison. (Unless it was a slow flying scale tanker...) The BME is just too darned light and strong, and the upgrade was WELL worth it! Flight performance...

Alternative engines

I've converted quite a few weed wacker and chainsaw engines. I've got a full web page dedicated to it. Read more about it here:

No shakes here!

DonM, I had a Brison 2.4 in my MW Extra, bolted up rigid. My plane was several years old when I bought it, and the Brison did nothing near shake it to pieces. Sure, it vibrated slightly more than the...

Perry Pump ???

IIRC...The Perry Pump instructions say you should not pressurize the tank. You could take a look at their web site, I think they answer it there. There's a link on my Engine page.

Magnum 1.80 Good? Bad? Ugly?

I don't own one, either....however, at the local IMAC contests a couple years ago, the guy who did was one of the few who dead-sticked regularly. That was the only one I've ever seen.

US41 won't run

If it's been sitting for a while, it probably needs a new fuel pump diaphragm. It's easy to tell--just pull the plate off of the carb, and if the diaphragm rubber isn't totally soft, then replace it....

Bme 50 ?

The leaf blowers are heavier--it's obvious just by looking at them. They look more like a Zen G45. Other than that, I don' know nuthin'.

Glow engines vs. Gas engines

I agree with DH. The RCS 1.40 will match most 1.20's for power and weight. They'll fly forever on 8oz of fuel, and is certainly my choice over any glow 1.20...unfortunately, most "1.20" planes are...

Ignition batteries

I love my RCS ignition--it will run for 30 minutes with a 250mAh battery pack. Not 31 minutes, though--I've tried. That gives you a very light ignition system. When I take that plane out, I usually...

RCV 120 Update!

Kregg,
Your prop calculations are off. You have assumed that a 20x6 at 12,000 rpm requires the same power as a 20x12 at 6,000, just because the numbers are balanced if you multiply them out. The...

60cc comparison.....MGLAVIN give your 2 cents

Jeff,
The reason the 80 costs more than the 60 is economy of scale, and the same reason that .46 sized glow engines cost more than .40's. The .46 is undoubtedly cheaper to manufacture, because the...

Jeff,
If you are wanting good BANG for your buck, consider the ZDZ 80 single! It's only a couple ounces heavier than their single--I believe it uses the same case, because its' got the same stroke. ...

BME Singles

The BME singles--the 44 & 50--are Echo chainsaws. The 44cc engine is from a CS-44, so I would guess the 50 is from the CS-50. They sell the 44 short blocks separate at lawn & power shops, but they...

Tailwheel,
Can you share your starting sequence. There have been a couple local guys who couldn't figure out how to get them to start so quickly.

Thanks,
