It's going to tune different than the plastic.
I would try it again, anything is better then that plastic one.
Go back to factory tune and start from there.

When your running hard the fuel gets shook up and it runs leaner,
I'm sure I read somewhere there's some time between WOT and idle that it

The new sirio .27 is all over ebay. I've also seen it at the Hobbie Town here.
I think the pico is a little less expensive but you have to buy the mount and header, it may take the stock header.

the rods are weak in the TRX 2.5 & 3.3.
You can put in a davis desel rod, I think RB is making 3.3 parts also. About $45 just for the rod.
Or just drop in an OS. I run a Sirio .23 mid block....

I,ve had this happen to a 2.5 and a 3.3
The 2.5 I found the inside bearing worn so the rod was scraping the case. It would just over heat. New bearings and it was fine.

I bought the pro line cuz I kept breaking the stocker.
Pro line lasted about half an hour.

You can do a little grinding in your 2.5 you'll get way more top end.
Aftermarket exhaust and air filter.
The spur gear is the cheapest to change, smaller gear higher top speed.

I just copied a Sirio crank. I understand Traxxas aren't the best bearing. Its comming up on two gallons now and I'm thinking
about changing out bearings.
