Sounds like its sucking air.Check carb to motor,back plate and maybe even front bearing seal.
Mine was carb seal, alittle silicone seal and it cured it.

Check out cheap battery packs.com. I use their 1100nimh packs,they are getting better as I recharge them for racing off-road,clay track.I like them better than my 1200nimh packs also from CBP.
