Hi i have a savage x and have just had the same problem,i removed the rear diff and found the bevel gears had broken apart it seems that these diffs are not that strong, i have 2 new sets of 4 bevels...

I also had problems with my savage x brakes right out of the box they sucked. a simple but effective fix is to just remove the spring from the screw adjuster and cut a short piece of outer shroud...
