RE: Showtime

Thanks for the info... I thought the 125 was the way to go for this plane. Post back when you have everything broken in and tuned right.

RE: Showtime

So have we flown the showtime with the BCMA 26 yet? I have a saito 100 in mine at the moment (had the engine around), and it's a bit lacking in the power department. I was thinking of doing a small...

RE: Magic Hand Yak 54 25% 73"

So what engine is everyone using in the 73" magic hand yak? I'd like to go gas, but am torn between the bcma 26 and bcma 40.... I think the 26 might be a bit under powered for 3d, but an the other...

RE: Saito 100 bearing endplay

Hmm, mine went together fairly easily once I followed Ken's suggestion to put the bearing/crank in the freezer and the crankcase in the oven (I think I had it at 375F). I already had the new front...

RE: Saito 100 bearing endplay

It's ALIVE!!!

I test ran the engine yesterday. I'm happy to report that it fired right up on the first flip of the prop. It idles better than I remember it. I ran a few tanks through to seat...

RE: Saito 100 bearing endplay

Thanks guys...

I just finished reassembly about 10 minutes ago.

Ken, I followed your instructions and it worked like a charm... the rear bearing dropped right onto the crank, and the crank...

RE: Saito 100 bearing endplay

OK, I'm stuck....

finally got my bearing separator and was able to get the hub off and crank out. Heated the crankcase in the oven for a bit and finally managed to get the old bearings out. I...

RE: Saito 100 bearing endplay

Yea, I've used that method too, but I've also been burned a few times by the "If at first you don't succeed, try a bigger hammer" mantra. I figure I'll wait for the right tool. I already ordered...

RE: Showtime

I'm in the process of building my showtime 90. I'm using a Saito 100 (had it from a previous plane, hopefully has enough power), and Hitech HS-5625MG's for all surfaces. I'm trying to figure out...

RE: Saito 100 bearing endplay

Thanks w8ye,

I got the cam box off. Just took a little heat and some persuading from a razor blade. I'm glad I bought the gasket set, there was no chance at saving that one.

Looks like...

RE: Saito 100 bearing endplay

Well, I broke down an ordered a bearing separator last week after failing to find one locally. Hopefully it will be in early next week. After two quick flights this morning and freezing my thumbs...

E-Fite Pitts Model 12 15e (glow conversion)

I was looking at the E-Flite Pitts Model 12 15e, looks like a really nice plane (from what I can see on the web). Has anyone tried a glow conversion? If so what engine? Also looking for comments...

RE: Saito 100 bearing endplay

Thanks for all the tips guys. I'm sure the hints on setting the timing will make more sense once I start taking things apart. I already ordered a gasket set from horizon earlier today. I figure if...

RE: Saito 100 bearing endplay

Thanks Ken and w8ye, I appreciate the advice/help.

I'm going to be away for the weekend, so I probably won't touch the engine until some time next week, most likely next weekend (well unless the...

RE: Saito 100 bearing endplay

Thanks w8ye,

I just ordered myself a set of ceramics. For $36 shipped I might as well have them on hand when I inspect. Even if I don't change them now, I'm sure I'll eventually need them. ...

RE: Saito 100 bearing endplay

You are correct Ken, there is some side to side play. However there seems to be a difference of opinion here (above 2 quotes). I seem to recall there being a bit of play (perhaps not as much as...

RE: Saito 100 bearing endplay

I'm not exactly sure how much play there is, just feels like alot, especially at the tip of an 11" prop. It is a side to side play, I believe I used the wrong terminology when I said "end play". ...

RE: Saito 100 bearing endplay

I've got one that looks like the pic on the left. I don't think I have the other piece you show, which looks like it would actually grab the ridge in the front hub. I'll have to rig something up...

RE: Saito 100 bearing endplay

What would be the easiest way to inspect the front bearing? I'd like to avoid taking the entire engine apart if possible. Can I just pull the drive washer off without disassembling anything else? ...

Saito 100 bearing endplay

I have a Saito 100 that went into some soft grass / mud like a lawn dart when the wing and fuse of my ultrastick decided to part company a while back. I cleaned it up, no obvious exterior damage...

RE: Showtime

Thanks Pat,

I put the plane aside for a few days, and took an objective look at the hinges, they aren't quite as bad as I first thought. I'm going to seal them up and go with it.

As for...

RE: Showtime

Just started building my showtime last night. Going to be using a Saito 100 for now since I have it from another plane that met an untimely demise. I plan on using Hitec 5625's all around except...

RE: Showtime 50 anyone?

rmazuera,

Thanks for the info. I doubt I'll be doing all out 3D anytime soon (I have a H9 Tribute PNP profile to kick around if I get the urge). I really need to learn to use the rudder more...

RE: Showtime 50 anyone?

Hmm, I'm still torn here.... I have a Saito 100 and really like the showtime. Been doing some more reading up on the ST90, and looks like the 100 is going to be on the low end of the power range for...
