RE: Lee's vintage TA-03 R S TRF build thread

I think we need an M03 loooove thread - I have three at the moment and a 4th is promised :)

I have a BMW Mini, Rover Mini Cooper (2 shells) and a Lunchbox on my M03 chassis.....

RE: Troubling observations about brushless . . .

Depends where you live - around here you can leave your car unlocked, heck you can leave your house unlocked !

When I lived in the UK I had my cars broken into just to get a couple of...

RE: Deans vs. Power Poles

I like Deans too - I have melted Tamiya's connected power poles the wrong way :)

The security and idiot-proof connections make it the best choice....

RE: It's been 6 months... And I'm still fuming

If this was a mainstream product, mass manufactured, like say a Trinity motor I would almost expect the manufacturer or supplier to replace it almost without blinking.

However, this is...

RE: Troubling observations about brushless . . .

In a previous life I used to use fishing weights - small lead weights - to adjust the corner weights on my racers.

Easy to secure with a dab of silicone and if ever they need removing they are...

RE: Dark Impact - Lunchboxer style..

You did 'teach' the ESC when you built it ?

You have to program the ESC to understand where neutral/full forwards / full backwards is.....

I forgot this step when I built my first lunchbox...

RE: body shape (why)?

Tear-Drop shaped, minimal frontal area, super skinny tires, nothing sticking out at the sides and you are into super slippery, lower air resistance.

Seal up the underside too - allow no air...

RE: Tamiya F-350 High Lift

Bearing in mind everything inside the kit is in plastic bags I would have no issue buying water 'damaged'.

At worst the instructions and the sticker set will be damp/damaged / unusable.

RE: body shape (why)?

I race in a 'fun class' locally, it is specifically aimed at Tamiya front-drive chassis - M01/2/3 and the FF series.

We all run stock motors, standard ESC (Tamiya) (or MSC) and stock Tamiya...

RE: Troubling observations about brushless . . .

I am not sure it is a question of buying the wrong thing to tune it down, more a question of buying brushless and then tuning it to your requirements.

I just put a MambaMax 5700 in a...

RE: Troubling observations about brushless . . .

Honestly the throttle is in your control and you do not have to run full-throttle everywhere all the time !

The MambaMax ESC has extensive programming options that allow you to modify the power...

RE: Yub, Yub's Project: The Robot Racer

Interesting project,

I would assume that at relatively low speeds this is fairly easy, but as the speeds increase the need to process and react to data becomes a battle.

If the car is on...

Maybe a 'most loops around the parking lot ?

'Most air' from a ripple ?

RE: Return of Lunchbox..

Scalpel is insane - mine is Brushless powered (8000k/v) I geared it really low too all it does it leave a pair of black lines every time you feather the throttle, preventing it from spinning on...

RE: Return of Lunchbox..

Yes - I need to find something in an appropriate size :) I used those wheels because I hate them - they are the stock ones from my M03 MINI Cooper. I also have the stock 'R' ones - which look too...

RE: Return of Lunchbox..

It was built entirely out of spares - that was the whole idea :)

The gearbox has real good bearings, but the hubs are plastic ones.

I have allow hubs and bearings on order at the moment -...

Pics tomorrow, but this evening I *almost* finished my M03 based Lunchbox :)

RE: which is better for fun driving?

The lunchbox is fantastic fun - not really terribly good off road and not really that good on it - a heavy shell, hopeless 'shocks' and a suspension design that changes the geometry when the truck...

If all the motors behave the same with the ESC - it is the ESC

If one motor is troublesome with any ESC - it is the ESC

If all combinations of Motors and ESC's are bad - it has to be the...

RE: Cloning my road car (MINI) project - M03R

An update of sorts

I bought a new motor - a Mamba Brushless 5700 - and yet more shocks and a few more goodies.

Spent most of today masking and painting this project and also my M03 based...

RE: Why did Deans do this?

Step 1 - strip about 3/8" of insulation from the wire
Step 2 - 'tin' the end by heating the wire and adding solder so that it runs into the strands
Step 3 - 'tin' the connector
Step 4 - Slide...
