RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Hi All,

After flying two-strokes for some time, I decided to try a four-stroke earlier this year. Settled on an FA-82a to power a CMPro Edge 540. I received some excellent advice about break-in...

RE: CMPro Giles 202 - 50

I tried this on Saturday. It actually took quite a bit of effort to stall it - I'd just been flying the Addiction and I think I was trying to get the Giles into a harrier
Just kidding - when...

RE: CMPro Giles 202 - 50

Hi Ayrton,

I'm still using the original plugs in both my OS 2 strokes - 30-40 flights each.
Still the original plug in the TT50 in my Raptor - since March 2007 - lost count of how many flights.

RE: CMPro Giles 202 - 50

I was about to say that I could easily put my OS .46AX into the Giles to compare with the .55 but then I remembered that the HS needle is in a different place and I'd have to run it without the cowl....

RE: CMPro Giles 202 - 50

That's what happened to me just after I started flying mine, Dru. I slowed it down too much and it dropped a wing and frightened me. No damage done but it's made me wary of slowing it down. I'll find...

RE: CMPro Giles 202 - 50

You're not kidding about slippery, opjose. Fortunately, I followed your advice when I first flew mine months ago but I still can't say that I've got landings nailed. I do a long downwind and throttle...

RE: CMPro Giles 202 - 50

Well done, Ayrton!

Hopefully we'll be hearing from you after the weekend, then? Good news, of course.

I took my Giles to the field last weekend - as I mentioned, I've been neglecting it -...

RE: CMPro Giles 202 - 50

Hi Ayrton,

Looking good - I don't think the control horns are likely to give any trouble.

I'm very happy with the .55AX. Mostly I just fly around at half throttle and occasionally get...

RE: Saito 82 - length of crankcase breather tubing

Thanks everyone,

That makes it easier for tomorrow's maiden.

Saito 82 - length of crankcase breather tubing

Hi,

I'm just about ready to maiden a CMPro Edge 540 with a Saito FA82 and I'm putting the finishing touches on the cowl. I've read in various places that the maximum recommended length for the...

RE: CMPro Giles 202 - 50

Under my canopy is the same colour blue as the rest of the fuse and the box on mine said "Version II". I've also got the Robarts-style hinges as you mentioned with the integrated control horns....

RE: CMPro Giles 202 - 50

Thanks Matt,

I'll chase it up. I've more or less gotten used to the Giles but I've recently been flying a Seagull Extra 300 EP which has a red and yellow checkerboard pattern underneath and...

RE: CMPro Giles 202 - 50

Ayrton,

The Y-elevator setup was, at least for me, very fiddly. Others with more experience found it more straightforward and, the second time around on the Edge 540, it went more smoothly.

RE: CMPro Giles 202 - 50

Hi million-air,

I built my Giles over a year ago and I remember that I thought about the blind wing nuts for quite some time. I seem to remember that I fitted the blind nuts and then screwed...

RE: CMPro Giles 202 - 50

Great news, Dru.

I know what you mean about things getting in the way - so I took a rare holiday before Christmas and flew the Giles as much as I could. I enjoy the plane so much that I bought a...

RE: CMPro Giles 202 - 50

Hi All,

Good to see someone else building a Giles. Mine is pretty well sorted now and, as you suggested, opjose, the OS .55AX pulls it round the sky quite nicely. I normally just fly it around...

RE: CMPro Giles 202 - 50

Hi Dru,

I have an OS .55AX in mine. Still a very new engine, running it rich, and have only put 6 tanks through it so far. It doesn't feel underpowered but I'm just flying it around getting the...

RE: CMPro Giles 202 - 50

Finally flew the Giles myself today. First takeoff was a "weave and wiggle" until I got used to the rudder but once in the air it flies very nicely. I've got all the control surfaces toned down on...

RE: CMPro Giles 202 - 50

Hi Dru,

Sounds like a bargain. Mine's only flown once so I definitely don't qualify as reliable advice :D but I just used HS311 servos on ailerons and throttle and HS475HB on elevator and...

RE: CMPro Giles 202 - 50

Hi Matt,

I've never had any experience with tuning 4 strokes but I'd like to own one some day. My OS46AX is a bit touchy in the mid range at times - it's still pretty new so I don't make much...

RE: CMPro Giles 202 - 50

Finally finished the Giles on Saturday. Took it to the club on Sunday but ran out of courage and asked one of the experienced guys to fly it for me. He pronounced it fit and healthy but suggested a...

RE: CMPro Giles 202 - 50

To finish the Giles, I just have to cut the openings in the cowl, hook up the throttle servo, fit the fuel tank and canopy.
I was thinking that your new colour scheme would help with orientation....

RE: CMPro Giles 202 - 50

Sorry to hear about that, matt, but I like what I can see of the "checkerboard" repair you've made where the covering peeled off a few weeks ago. Do you have any side-on photos?
Also interesting...

RE: CMPro Giles 202 - 50

Hi Steve and opjose,

I eventually gave up on the single pushrod as I couldn't find a way to fit the two wires down the fuselage and out through the slots. (Apart from a trainer and an easy-build...

RE: CMPro Giles 202 - 50

Sounds like my first attempts to land my trainer. The first few had it floating the whole way down the runway. Now I just cut the throttle on late downwind and keep the nose pointed down a little....
