RE: Knight Twister Imperial 1/3 Scale

I like that color scheme. I have had a set of plans for 15 years but never built it. I checked into getting some of that magnalight and it was seriously way too expensive and also thought there had...

RE: Balsa vs Fiberglass kits.

I built a Byron Corsair and feel I could have built a balsa version lighter weight. Can't beat the toughness of a FG fuse though, plus the panel lines etc are molded in. The FG version is probably a...

RE: SAITO 300 TWIN - POST PICTURES OF YOUR PLANE

Ihad a Saito 300 twin in a Byron Corsair (85", 24#) and it flew it great. At least until Ihad a cylinder flame out and it spun into the ground. I am now building a Hostetler Lockheed Sirius (102",...

RE: History of R/C (books)

A friend of the family yesterday gave me a copy of a brief article from the Kalamazoo Gazette (Michigan) that talked about the Good brothers, it was about 12-15 years old, he wasn't sure. They had...

RE: leading edge sheeting problem

Assuming you can get to the area inside the wing, I would glue an additional layer of balsa on the inside over the first one in between the ribs. If you can't get sheeting in there, maybe some sticks...

RE: let's see your smoke pump installation

There are smoke mufflers available that have the pre-heater coils built into them. I have also seen brass tubing wrapped around the muffler in some fashion so the fluid gets heated that way before...

RE: how to do no bubble monocote on sheeting?

I also use a 'Woodpecker' and it makes it much easier to do a better job. I don't usually get bubbling except some on the very hot Summer days with intense sun. I did all my own markings on the last...

RE: let see your tme smoke pump installation

I don't have any pictures, just a tip. I had to put 2 check valves in the line to the muffler to get it to work good. One after the tank (before the pump) and one as close to the muffler as you can...

RE: OS BGX 1 or ST G3250

While I do not have a ST3250, I do have a ST3000 and it was a piece of junk until I put an OS carb on it, now it runs like a top. I can't speak for the ST carbs nowadays, but it was junk on my 3000....

RE: WACO YMF

WOW, I had no idea this thread was here until Stickbuilder pointed it out to me. I wish there was some electronic, magic-button way to consolidate this down into something that could be downloaded...

RE: RC Report Online!! For Real!!

I hope this works out for everyone's sake, but I'm not sure if it is for me personally. I don't spend a lot of time online and really don't want to, I'd rather be out in the garage working on...

RE: favorite magazine?

I have subscribed to all of them in the past and the only one I kept was RC Report, but that goes out of business with the March issue, which is too bad. Personally, I think MAN is overpriced for the...

RE: glue????????

Up until my last plane, a Meister 90" P-51, I used CA pretty much exclusively. Because I have been unemployed for 14 months now, I needed a much cheaper way to build the P-51, so I used Titebond II...

RE: Dynaflite 81" Spitfire

As I said earlier in this thread, I have a Saito 150 in mine and I didn't have any balancing problems at all with this engine, I just moved the battery around until it balanced. Note I do not have...

RE: Backplate on Saito 300 twin

It's the dual plug/dual carb version.

I can already turn the backplate no problem, it is free and easy, it just won't pull out, so I am not sure heat would help if it is a layer of crud...

Backplate on Saito 300 twin

I dug out my Saito 300 twin yesterday after many years of non-use. I couldn't turn it over by hand, but eventually loosened it up so it does turn over, but it doesn't feel as smooth as it should...

RE: Any issues in using larger fuel tank than usual?

Thanks for the responses, I think I will go with the big tank then. The only issue I thought there might be was fuel draw with the big tank, but no one mentioned that being an issue. I will be using...

Any issues in using larger fuel tank than usual?

I am going to build a Hostetler Lockheed Sirius this coming Winter (102") and use a Saito 300 twin in it. Normally, I would probably put a 24 ounce tank in it, maybe 28 ounce. I already have a brand...

RE: Cutting out balsa wood parts?

If you have the money, buying a kit of the wood parts from a kit cutter is the way to go. I did this with a Ziroli Stearman from Aeroplane Works and the kit was a work of art.

Now I don't have...

RE: Long servo arm or short control horn?

My memory may be off here, but I believe short servo arms make for more precise positioning back to neutral after initiating a movement, but long servo arms have more holding torque.

RE: What's the best incidence meter out there?

I have used the Robarts's for years and love them, never tried anything else though so I cannot compare. I actually have 3 of them so I can get biplanes put together and measure both wings & the...

RE: Which engine for TF GS P-47

I checked out his website and the plane/price looks good, but sure different construction, which I am not averse to. There sure is a lot of negative information about the company on this site though....

RE: Which engine for TF GS P-47

CGAV8R - What kit or plans is that 90" P47? 20 lbs. seems very light for a plane that size. Looks nice by the way.

RE: smoke on 2 stroke

I have to disagree with Minnflyer in this instance because I bought the smoke muffler AFTER trying a regular pitts-style muffler and the smoke was better with the smoke muffler. Just my experience...

RE: smoke on 2 stroke

I had a "simple smoke" system on an OS BGX and it worked great. Much larger than a 91, but I think it would work with a smoke muffler. In case you didn't know, the smoke mufflers have a coil inside...
