I would stay away from Venom packs they are garbage. Unless you like battery packs that up and quit on ya without warning.

All the Traxxas XL-5 models now come brushless ready with all steel tranny gears and all the electronics are waterproof too.

Aluminum trannys do an awesome job for helping keep motors cool and reduces tranny flex under extreme torque or maybe you didn't know that?

It's a nice idea in theory, but to be honest I think it would be more trouble than it's worth. There is nothing wrong with a good old fashion aluminum tranny.

I have two VXL's and they both do the same thing, it's a Traxxas thing? I just learned to pay attention to battery performance and run them in NiMH mode with no problems. I'll be switching to Mamba...

NiMH's can't handle the amperage that a brushless setup demands. If you are not careful you can easily cook a NiMH in a brushless setup. Lipo's are the bomb and when I switched I never looked back...
