RE: direct drive upgrade

Here's how I changed my 44 tooth spur to a 49 tooth spur. It'll give you about 11% more low end. My top end stayed the exact same (38 mph) b/c with the 44 t spur I wasn't able to pull max rpms. ...

RE: VOLCANOS FOR XMAS, WHAT SPARES DO I NEED?

Yes, the single speed conversion that I posted has everything needed. It has the gearbox with a 44 tooth spur gear, new brakes, and a 13 tooth clutch. That setup works great and much better than...

RE: VOLCANOS FOR XMAS, WHAT SPARES DO I NEED?

If you haven't gotten it, I'd definitely get the single gear upgrade. The gearbox that comes in the volcano has 5 gears and they tear apart easily especially if you do any jumps. Since I changed to...

RE: .18 Engine Comparisons

To test for air leaks, I removed the fuel line into the carb and put another piece of fuel tubing on the carb that I could blow into. Get a spray bottle with soapy water and spray down the engine. ...

RE: .18 Engine Comparisons

Yeah, I just figured top end is the easiest to compare. I was thinking of switching since I couldn't keep my VX tuned. It would get hot and then have a hard time starting after several WOT runs and...

RE: .18 Engine Comparisons

Surprised no one has ran these engines on the same car or truck to compare. Thinking of changing my VX engine, but wanted a feel for how much the SH or OS would add in power and speed.

.18 Engine Comparisons

Has anyone done a comparison of the .18 VX, SH, and OS engines on the same model. I've read that the OS has more power than the SH which is better than the VX, but has anyone done speed comparisons...

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

Another question. I seem to have stripped some gears in my steering servo. Can anyone tell me what type of servo I need to get to replace it that would fit the same area? I'd like to find one at...

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

Yeah, the slipper hub is 6mm, but that's OK, since I'll just use an old gear off the multi gear transmission. I do need to get the 11x5x4 bushing. I got to run it today and got the exact same speed...

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

Darn, the hub has a larger shaft size than the volcano uses - probably a 6mm. Since the hub won't work, I was able to rig it temporarily to try it out. What I did was take an old gear from the...

RE: Rewinding pull start string

Thanks, I was able to get it back together. Needed to pull the one way bearing out to get the spring clipped back on the spool.

Rewinding pull start string

Are there any tips for rewinding the pull start string after it breaks? The spring is still in the enclosure but I can't figure out how to reattach it to the spool with the string on it. Any tips...

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

Yeah, I'm just going to bolt them together. Looks like I can put the hub on one side of the metal pin and the gear on the other. Bolt them together and it should work great. Wish I would have...

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

ordered the parts and will give it a try. Will let you know how it works out. I got both a 49 and 52 tooth gear to see which fits.

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

Looks like I could make that work. One question is that looking at some of the Savage parts it looks like the shaft may be 6 mm and not 5 mm? Do you know for sure they're the same?

I changed...

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

How would I make the 47 tooth gear work in a single speed transmission? Would it be a direct replacement for the gear that's in there now or would I need to put some additional parts in? in other...

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

With the direct drive setup, has anyone tried a 12 tooth clutch bell or found a bigger spur gear than 44 t that will work? I'm wondering if there's a way to get more low end out of the direct drive...

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

Just figured it out. I hit a curb pretty hard right before the gears stripped. Put a straightedge on the frame and it's bent. I was able to straighten it out though, so it should work for a while....

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

That's whats weird. I didn't change the brakes - just replaced the gears. My engine was all the way to the outside from the factory and it seemed to mesh good. I even counted the gear teeth to...

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

Here's another question. Had to change my gears b/c the spur stripped. When I try to get the correct mesh by moving the engine, the engine flywheel is hitting the metal shoe for the brakes?? I can...

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

Thanks for the help. I had ordered a CEN #3 plug a week ago and it came in today. Idled great. Big difference from the colder plug. I'll order a couple OS #3's as replacements.

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread

I have the Vertex engine and am having problems keeping it idling correctly. It will idle when first started but tends to want to die at idle after up to operating temps. Tried a bunch of carb...
