I replaced it with a stock 4g1b motor from Walkera - I must have had a faulty one from the factory.

I had the same problem when I got mine. I replaced the motor, and use 18c batteries, and now it has loads of power. I use the superskids-300 landing gear which is pretty heavy and I still have plenty...

First, check that the blades are balanced - I use a tiny scale, digital scale that goes to .00 grams. Also, make sure nothing is bent. Run the thing slowly without the main blades and see if...

My power problems were solved with a new motor. Initially, like you, I could barely get the thing off the ground. Popped in a new motor and it has power to spare - even with the heavy Superskids on...

That looks fantastic! I'll be doing the same at the first opportunity. I have the SS-300s so they probably aren't quite as wide as yours.

Have a look on rcgroups.com for info on brushless...
