RE: Picco 90 build

I'm the guy that Coriolan was referring to, I just happen to work in Mississauga! Feel free to shoot me a message anytime and I'll do whatever I can to help!

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR

^^ I don't have any binding with mine at all, the drive line spins over super smooth and easy as it sits.  There is a bit of a gap on mine, I found that stock the stub was binding in the strut.  I...

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR

My CG isn't bad with a 3s 2200mah pack in front of the motor.  I put it as far forward as I can and still get the hatch on.  It's a bit aft, but only about 1/2" further back than I'd like.

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR

All back together, really easy fix.  The transom how has a 1/16" ply doubler (two pieces of 1/32" laminated together), and a 1/8" square basswood  reinforcement at the bottom.

I reversed the...

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR

I dunno about anyone saying this is too slow on 3s, I'd say its pretty quick for what it is...

100% stock except a 32mm prop, and the sponson bottoms trued up a bit. I still have a lot more work...

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR

I'm gonna check out the stock stub shaft on the mini rio, if it will work I'll get one of those, remove the stock flex and solder in my own wire. I think the flex/stub is like $5, and the coupler is...

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR

Did you get your wire drive from Jeff Wohlt? Where did you get the coupler for it? What size wire did you end up with?

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR

Finally got mine out for a first (and second) run today after work. Ran quite well, but the prop needs a bit more depth, and I still have a leak. All signs point to the water outlet, but I'm going to...

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR

Generally you want the flat surface of the tunnel area to be flat with the sponsons and bottom of the strut resting on a flat surface. You might have to make small adjustments, but that will get you...

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR

That's a lot of work?  I did that all in about an hour the same night the boat arrived (two days ago).  Mine still hasn't seen water except a float test in the bathtub.  The weather today is looking...

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR

I found that on mine I had to loosen the prop nut, move the drive dog back (and tighten it well), then put the prop/nut back on. There is ALOTof binding in the stub if you pull it too far into the...

RE: Unofficial

Well, shredded my impeller today... ARGH!

Haven't decided if/how I want to fix it yet, but I was having a blast today.  I found a section of river that was moving quite fast (took half throttle...

RE: Unofficial

I'll double check the impeller, but I'm pretty sure its as far back as it can get.

I had it out again today, haven't grabbed the video off the camera yet but it wasn't any better.  I took a better...

RE: Unofficial

I only ran it once with the battery in front like that, any video of it (except in the pool) was with the battery across the hull.  It's better with the extra dead weight, but I think there's...

RE: Unofficial

Here's the only shot Ican get at right now. The battery is now mounted sideways across the hull, abotu 1/4"in front of the motor. The ESC is to the left of the battery, servo and RXare at the back on...

RE: Unofficial

I run mine on 3s, with a 3200kv motor. It doesn't really pick up much speed between 3/4 andWOT throttle, nothing like between 1/2 and 3/4 throttle.

Once mine loses prime, Ihave to completely stop...

RE: Unofficial

Mine definitely isn't poirposing, and it loses prime easier without the weight in the back. I can't get above 1/2 throttle in ripples or it loses prime the second it hits a ripple. It also loses...

RE: Unofficial

I'm having a hard time with mine losing prime over even little ripples, I think it might be the weight (or lack of)?  How much are most people weighing in at ready to run, and where are they...

RE: Unofficial

I made my cooling plate from flat brass sheet, and two brass tubes soldered to it. The metal working involved cutting the brass sheet to size (dremel cut off wheel), drilling 3 holes (2 for mounting,...

RE: ineffective water cooling?

Is the current ESC capable of the same amperage as the stock one?  It doesn't sound like it is, or it requires cooling to handle it.

RE: Unofficial

It's a bit smaller, but should do ok! The water cooling will be more effective than a seperate plate as well.

RE: NOT IMPRESSED WITH MINI RIO

I should try cycling the pack a couple times to see if that helps, definitely can't hurt!

RE: Unofficial

That one should be better, not sure how warm it'll run though.  You'll definitely need some cooling, but at least you won't have to modify the coupler.  For 350 on 3s, that motor will pull about 30...

RE: Unofficial

A 2030 motor is too small for this IMO.  I'm running a 450 sized outrunner with a simple cooling plate, and it runs fast and cool.  The motor was all over $11 too!

RE: ineffective water cooling?

Water will take the path of least resistance, so it makes sense that it bypasses the "H" section.  I would just use a straight joiner and lose that section, but I can't see it restricting flow that...
